More dangerous & creditable September opponent for Canelo & GGG respectively: Spike or Ryōta?

For the record: while I like Murata well enough, I actually VASTLY prefer Spike (who is a personal friend of mine) to Samurai, and would be a thousandfold happier to see him score the September upset. I know some folks like @IsaL and @shadow111 will claim this is because I'm supposed to be this massive Canelo hater and/or GGG bootlicker, yet rest assured I don't have a dog in that particular race. I was more than fair in giving Canelo due credit for his good work and had Golovkin just barely squeaking by last year (https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...saúl-Álvarez-at-last-ibs-official-rbr.599949/) and honestly could not care less who ultimately wins the rematch - and with it, likely, the rivalry. I'm probably a million times bigger a Spike fan than I am invested emotionally in either GGG or Canelo.

Having said that, outside giving Spike a puncher's chance against the come-forward and sometimes defensively liable Murata if they met h2h, I have to say the Japanese fighter is by orders of magnitude the greater scalp than the Irishman, even taking all of Canelo's trials & tribulations of late into account.

 

He fought near me a few times (on the Dropkick Murphy's cards); the first time I sat ringside close enough for a handshake, and we struck up a correspondence shortly thereafter when I slid into his DM's on Twitter.

 

I've chatted with lots of boxers over the years, mostly in passing very casually, the pair I'm chummiest with are probably Spike & Ishé Smith.

...oh and I guess Andrew Hartley, since he did ask me to be his coach.

 

So you consider both mismatches? A tad harsh on Murata...

 

Peaky Blinders (first three seasons anyway, I'm behind) is ***½, but anything with Beat Takeshi is *****.
