I can't ****ing stand the walking, talking 6'7" gobshite that is DW but, in both losing efforts to Fury, he's shown more testicular fortitude than any other HW of the past 10 years and for that he has my respect and gets mucho credit.
Wilder rubs a lot of people up the wrong way,but as a fighter the facts of it are the man simply has no quit in him and if losing he will literally go out on his shield. In a nutshell it’s basically an insult/out of order to even compare Wilder to Joshua as to who has the most heart .
The interesting thing is Wilder is very aware and mentions it quite often how you can get extremely hurt in a boxing and that your head is NOT meant to get punched. Yet he will die in that ring. I respect it especially given he is unable to defend himself when badly hurt. Your heart can go at any moment, any fighter at any moment can decide there is life after boxing. I expect Wilder & AJ will retire before realizing that in a ring. They have faced great men so will lay it on the line, what happens when they are against a prospect who isn't supposed to be great but they are doing a job on them? AJ definitely hasn't got the inherent toughness to get through that situation. Against Wlad he just managed.
In the ring, Wilder. He's willing to stick it out until he has 0% chance of winning, when sane men would quit, and then continues to take the beatings until he's not permitted to continue. Out of the ring? Pre-Fury, Wilder's courage in terms of who he's been willing to fight has been lacking almost his entire career - up to and including Fury #1, Deontay consistently cherrypicked fighters of either limited skill or in poor condition. Arguably even Fury #2 took little bravery as nobody would've expected him to suddenly turn Dr Hyde and become the aggressor... Granting that, only Fury #3 took any balls to sign up for. Strange case Wilder, being at the same time a warrior and a coward, one of boxing's great contradictory figures. You have to give him his dues for the heart in Fury #3, but you also have to wonder why it took so long for him to stop just knocking over bums.
Wilder may have more heart than AJ but he's still a big baby and a sore loser. Lost a lot of respect after all his excuses post Fury rematch, gained some back in the trilogy and then lost it again with his disrespect of Fury after the fight.
Wilder is delusional to the point he is willing to die in the ring. AJ despite his roadman stories lack heart/toughness/dog in him. We will see how he acts once he throws everything at Usyk, fails to ko him, gasses and starts getting beaten up by a superior boxer with a bigger gas tank. It will reveal him, does he go balls out or folds?
