true boxing fans are more knowledgeable when it comes to boxing. they know the history, the past fighters, the pospects, the true story behind every fights, etc. on the other side, the casual fans are the ones who keep the boxing alive, paying PPVs. watching fights live, etc.

so, who are more important to boxing? discuss

Well, if you want boxing to be on the front pages of yahoo and espn when big fights happen, I'd say casual fans...Casual fans also encourage the best fighters to fight each other and put on good shows (because they make more $ doing such)

Casual fans are needed to keep the sport alive. If only the hardcore fans follow boxing - it will dry up and die.

Without the casual fans there would not be "The Dream match" or "The battle of the Superpowers" - where it is daylight robbery. But who on the street is going to salivate at the thought of Kessler v Dawson or even a Paul Williams v Wink Wright. Strong arguments for both really.

thats also what i feel. casual fans are the heart and soul of boxing, while the true fans are the brain, imo.

I think that it's an impossible question to answer.

    Boxing cant survive without either.

I despise casual fans. I **** with them on fightnight RELENTLESSLY whenever I get the chance. They dont know my sport. They spend their time watching the NFL and the NBA. On Fightnight, they try to turn into Jim Lampley. I love a fellow REAL Boxing Fan, whether he agrees with me or not. He knows the fighters, and whats going on with the sport. The thing with me, is that I have turned into such a hardcore fan, that on Fightnight, I need to be watching the fight alone, with my face 4 inches in front of the set, yelling instructions and obscenities at the screen, and running to the toilet in between rounds.. This doesnt fare well at a sociable "Fight Party"

both are very important. true fans because of their knowlegde and casual fans because they are the ones paying the ppv's. if we compare it with chess, that only true fans are watching, do you think we will get this mega fights? boxing needs both in order to survive.

without the true fans, boxing would go under. True fans keep the sport alive. Casual fans make it flourish

Casual fans make up the bulk of PPV buys on major events.
