Even in a street fight, where Mitch might have the advantage?

Jim Brown would have no chance against Liston, unless Brown were armed. Brown would have to stick to smacking around his girlfriends and throwing females off balconies and beating up the occasional golf partner!

Wow! I didn't know the Gracies were here in the U.S back then. But that would have been something to see.

Speaking of English guys, I'd love to have seen Liston fight Lenny McClean, the Guv'nor.
    Lenny was a genuine S.O.B!

Becuzzzzzzz...why exactly? Because he beat up Telly Savalas in "The Dirty Dozen"? The martians in "Mars Attacks"?

Are the moderators paying you money to keep this thread alive?

Ali slapped the **** out of Jim Brown. He was a tough guy no doubt.

    Was he for real?

I remember watching a video of him on Youtube where some dude comes upto him and kisses him or something and Mclean laid him out, it looked too WWE for me.

I know Mclean did challenge Ali back in the days

Most of the heavyweights I have looked at do not scare me by thier face.

For me Liston did not look tough. He looked like he could be one of my uncles telling jokes but the uncle that you did not want to get mad. Niether did Foreman. His little afro looked soft like "Coming to America". Tyson was intimidating because he desired to be mean in everyway. He was ripped to a shred and massive. All black, no socks, no music, no games. As soon as I saw him across the ring I would be shook.

John L. Sulivan look scary. That mustasche would not have scared me but I can tell that he was unhinged looking at his eyes. Mitch "Blood" Green looked like he was out of his freaking mind. Seriously! I would be scared of him. Samuel Peter looked scary as ever. He had those crazy eyes. James Toney. He was street scary. He was tough looking and acting.

Jim Brown was a legit tough guy who was nice with his hands. And didn't take crap off anyone.Sure, he had his faults, but so did Liston(****), Ali(cheating), among others.

No payment involved.Just making a strong point.

As in Mitch whipping Sonny's ass. They didn't call him Blood for nothing.Ask Iran Barkely.

Based on what? What event(s) legitimized his toughness as a fighter that you would even put him in the same conversation with Sonny Liston?

Strong points usually have evidence to back them. You haven't provided any, other than just some vague "feeling" you have that Brown was somewhere near Liston's league in fighting toughness.

Examples that strengthen your point, please? :smoke

Ask Fred Williamson:good:lol:! Or George Foreman, who admittedly modeled himself after Jim Brown. Leon Spinks would be another person to give Sonny hell in a street fight.

Since we are talking old-school tough guys here, and adding in a few Hollywood guys, I'll throw one William Smith into the mix. Smith would have tore Jim Brown up. The two were from the same generation. The more I read up on William (Bill) Smith, the more impressed I am with the guy. He did a movie with Fred Williamson as well. But unlike a lot of Hollywood tough guys, this guy was for real.

Good pick. Bronson always seemed hard and tough, even as an older man. Jim Brown, believe it or not, praised Bronson and said that he seemed like a formidable kind of tough guy. Brown said Bronson carried himself as if he knew how to fight.
