Hi everyone, I'm glad you liked the PREVIOUS ONE, so there's one more for you guys. This one has soundbites by Wlad Klitschko, his former trainer, as well as by Sultan and his father. Klitschko's team arranged a press opportunity, opening their camp to the media for a few minutes only. Take a look at Wlad. Wow. [YT]CDEQwQVSwvU[/YT] Dr. Steelhammer vs. The Hunter (the video link here)
So the backdrop of the fight is Ukraine vs Russia, Orthodox style vs Southpaw, and Christian vs Muslim. I suppose boxing will always have its ethinic / religious differences. I applaud both of the fighters for being class people.
Hmm, ethnically Ibragimov is not Slavic, i.e. he comes from Daghestan, a Moslem republic in Southern Russia. Muslim faith is the only thing in common between Daghestanis and Arabs though
I also didn't know Ibrag was muslim. It seems he has not got that I will win, this fight, period, attitude. He says he won't be too upset if Aliah won't allow him to win. And I didn't know Ibragimov's title was The Hunter..
To be fair he didn't say 'I won't be too upset'. What he actually said was 'If Allah doesn't give me the victory, what is there to do?' I don't think this means he won't try enough.
I wouldn't consider Sultan a "Russian". He's from the Caucas mountains, and he is a muslim. He's more Arabic in that respect than russian. Plus, no one in Russia names their kids "sultan". It's really a match between a Ukrainian/Russian vs. a Caucus guy.
Not exactly so. He is Russian (and quite rightfully so) in the same way that any person of, say, Indian origin, whose home is the US, has the right to feel (and to be) American. Believe it, there ARE Russian Muslims - and they have every right to be Russian nationals and Muslims at the same time "no one in Russia names their kids Sultan" - that is not true, because Mr. Ibragimov WAS born in Russia - and he got the name somehow :yep
Sultan is not slavic and not Russian in the sense of nationality. He even speaks Russian with a heavy accent. His Russian is better than his English of course.
