    Not sure about this.

I make mistakes on the numbers sometimes -what a rematch is worth or whatever- but i'm pretty sure he was on $1M for the first fight.

    YES!
But i dont see anything wrong with the current way of things.
Could be very well that he only has someone like Fonfara and Chavez Jr. signed, and he doesn't want to kick off things with those guys.
Maybe the big names aren´t a done deal and Hearn is waiting/hoping to get those done by the end of June.

I would not want to kick things off with Raushee foken Warrenn. (Whom i actually like quite a bit)

    :lol::lol::lol: "We have 1BILLION DOLLARS"
...First event is Chavez Jr. - Martirosyan.

Because this isn't about reaching hardcore fans. It's about reaching the casual sports fan that's heard nothing of this as yet, never heard of DAZN etc.

The way to achieve this is to make the biggest splash possible. Which means they need all the big stories from their signings to be as fresh and newsworthy as possible.

In 5 weeks time they can marshal all of their assets to get the biggest media cut through possible. More importantly, they are in position to convert that interest to actual sales by thar point.

The way they're approaching this is entirely consistent with good marketing practice.

The biggest drawback to the ‘delayed, wait-for-it, wait-for-it BIG NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT’ is that until then you just get a steady stream of ‘well, so-and-so turned Eddie down, oh and that guy too,’ etc.

It’s negative publicity: no Broner, no Charlos, next week it will probably be a few more.

And when someone does agree, word is probably going to leak out so there’s not any surprise element unless he can pull a rabbit out of his arse.

If in 5 weeks time his “BIG NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT” is JCC Jr. and Fonfara, it’s going to come off as a huge failure off the launch bad. And if he gets a Mikey and we already know it by then, it’s still ho-hum since there’s no news.

With respect, I think you and Mcgrain are looking at this from the perspective of hardcore, highly engaged boxing fans who read all the boxing news, blogs, forums etc.

DAZN wants your business, no question, but they know that in 5 weeks time you will be watching, assessing their initial offering and making your decision accordingly. You'll do this regardless of what's happened before then, because you love boxing.

DAZN however need to reach casual sports fans who don't see that news, won't have had any idea Broner has had an offer etc. In 5 weeks time however they will have been seeing tv and web adverts about this new service. They will be seeing interviews with various sports people maybe from soccer or whatever sports they've also managed to sign up. Then they'll see a load of boxers along with some video clips of their best KO showreels. They are the mass audience that this launch will be directed at. Not us.

    Aye.

An they can do that in five weeks.

This can't work both ways; it can't be "no trying to reach the hardcore boxing fans" (presumably because the don't reach anyone else) AND maximum return by including the boxing fan in the "big splash."

There's no way to cut this so it actually makes sense.

I'd love to see how this "marketing practice" reveals itself in dollars.

Yeah, it's definitely not the end of the world. Certainly not worth ten pots or whatever.

I tell you, I think he's struggling. Well, we know he's struggling I guess?

Hearn does his mini reveal soft launch to build buzz in the boxing community. Note that it would be impossible to keep the existence of the project secret as more fighters were contacted so the decision to do this is in part a recognition of that reality. He's successful in introducing the concept to hardcore fans and begins a series of conversations online that will continue up to the hard launch in 5 weeks.

At that point the collective assets can be deployed in conjunction, which makes for a much bigger story right at the moment they are ready to go to market.

He might be. Whats the point in announcing Mikey, Fonfara and Chavez Jr. now? Would be a black eye. He still has a month to secure some good names.
But Hearn is running all over the place, i would be shocked if he can't sign anyone.
Hearn signing Khan and Jacobs gives me confidence that he can get high value targets.

On the boxing end, if they don’t capture the hardcore audience they danged sure aren’t going to capture the casuals. They need the buzz within the community, not “haha, another fighter turned them down.”

As for the casuals, unless they sign Connor MacGregor and Floyd and Manny and Canelo to exclusive deals, they can line up five ‘name’ fighters and a dozen ‘up-and-comers’ and nobody is going to know who they are.

His best move IMO would be to announce that Wilder vs. AJ is happening in Las Vegas and it’s going to be on DAZN exclusively. THAT woud garner some attention. But that fight, if and when it happens, isn’t going to be on his billion-dollar (lol) streaming platform.

If highlights of KOs by unknown-to-the-general-public fighters moved the needle, HBO would be increasing its budget and every other network in America would be running highlight reels and raking in money.

It doesn’t matter in the USA if DAZN attracts soccer fans or darts fans or chess fans or whatever else it is they plan to offer — if those things prop it up, they’ll quietly opt out of the Eddie deal at the first opportunity (two years) and go with sports that attract an audience. But if they don’t have the NFL and other major American pro leagues, it’s going to be a hard sell. And Mikey Garcia and Fonfara and JCC Jr aren’t going to make me plop down a monthly fee, much less get a casual to do so.

DING! DING! DING! WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!

Eddie has been promising announcements of “a major American signing in a few weeks time” every few weeks since October 2017.

As a businessman he’s the equivalent of a carnival barker. He’s actually stringing along from week to week the media and what few investors he’s managed to attract with false hopes of “major American signings” and a “$1Billion budget”.

Let’s just recall how stupefied he was that Haymon had the finances to guarantee a $50 Million purse for AJ. For Hearn it was inconceivable any outfit could guarantee that much cash. This is how small time Hearn is.

And while we’re on the subject of shady characters, when are people going to realize that cokehead Sauerland and white collar criminal Schaefer don’t have the prize money for the WBSS Cruiserweight tournament?

All Al Haymon was interested in was stealing money from his investors.
    - And he did very well, indeed.

Boxing was just his means to an end, the same as when he ripped everybody off in the music business.

True the business model he set up seems to have been a very basic con with no real benefit to boxing as a sport it just lined his pockets and the pockets of his fighters.
