Monday, July 28 2008 Former IBF super middleweight Jeff Lacy has revealed that he's retiring from boxing because he is insulted by a $550,000 offer to fight Jermain Taylor. "What do I look like fighting a fight of that caliber for $550,000 when I have more to risk than anything?" Lacy commented to the Tampa Tribune. "I feel like Taylor needs me more than I need him and what do I look like fighting that fight for $550,000 and risking my life in there like I did Wednesday night because the referee is not on top of this guy hitting me in the back of the head?"
I think $550k is all he is worth. He hasn't had a decent performance for three years - struggled to beat three journeymen since his embarrasing loss to Joe Calzaghe. He ought to take the money, and his ass which will be handed to him, and retire.
If he honestly wants to retire, the $550k would make a nice nest egg. Honestly, he should retire. If he doesn't take a Taylor fight, then I'm not sure he'll pull in that much money for the rest of his career, and if he retires, then I have no idea how he'll make that kind of money. He's just being stupid all the way around here.
No ****. Lacy talks like he's some big name and he would be doing Taylor a favour by fighting him. Someone needs to tell this mope that Jermain is still a bigger name than he is. atsch
Why doesnt he just pick up 500k and take a dive, bet the 500k on the least likely round and make $5mil, easy way to bump up your earnings, silly boy
I say take the money.. fight for your life and IF you could pull the upset. you're in a much better position to demand more money. you can say what you want about jeff but the truth is he only has 1loss against atg joe calzaghe.. ! can someone tell me a legal and faster way to make $550.000
Lacy has done nothing in recent years to be worth more then 500K. There are much better fighters out there who are making a lot less then 500k/fight.
