There are all sorts of power.

Shavers had the type of power that would make you go "DAYYYYYYUUUUUUUMMMMMMM!!!!!" and you would want to get out of the ring and never fight him again. He wouldn't knock you cold, but he hit you so hard you just stayed down or got up if you were brave.

Prime Foreman had a more clubbing type of power. He would club you down. His punches would knock you backwards even if they were blocked. The older, comeback Foreman's punches were more sharp and accurate. He didn't wildly club at his foe anymore, he used his jab to set up openings.

Marciano had sudden "lights out" power. You would be doing fine, and suddenly he would hit you with his right, and it would be over. You were out cold, and would need to be revived.

Tyson had a mixture of sharp and Foreman type power. Frazier had the same thing. Tyson would nail you with a great shot, and you were dazed, and he got you from there. Or you went down, got up, was still in a daze, and just got beat down again. Berbick was KTFO with 1 punch though. So was Botha and Ettiente, although, they weren't out cold, just seriously messed up.

in a video in youtube, it said once that people wanted prime mike tyson to fight earnie shavers (out of prime earnie) but tyson refused.

    that would've been a good-but-unfair match. :yep

I lean toward Foreman. His power was unbelievable, and that was with poor technique. If George in his prime learned to put his weight into a punch, and not just arm punch, he would have killed some people.

However, all the other fighters mentioned are good, too. Hell, I could see adding Louis, Baer, Liston, Dempsey, and maybe even W. Klitschko to the list.

Who did Marciano one-punch OK in the early rounds of a fight? A shellshocked Walcott's non-effort in the second fight does not count. Marciano seemed to tenderize guys, waiting for the damage to accumulate and the openings to come before laying the coup de grace in the mid to later rounds.

I have to say Earnie Shavers.

The evidence of his power is overwhelming. To my mind he only had one peer as a power puncher and that is Max Baer. Of the two I havour Shavers as the hardest puncher ever.

    Solid analysis.

Shavers was indeed the hardest puncher to my mind.

The most effective puncher was Joe Louis with Jack Dempsey and Mike Tyson close behind.

For a one punch knockout artist the all time king is probably Sam Langford.

I was refering to someone's estimation that Marciano had the best one-punch ko power.

He KO'd Layne in the 6th with 1 punch if that counts as early. A lot of his earlier fights that weren't filmed ended with 1 punch early into the fight.

Marciano may have been a more effective puncher than Louis, Dempsey and Tyson. He ko'd every contender he fought. The former two didn't. Of course, Louis did fight a lot more contenders than Dempsey & Marciano, so it's not really clear-cut.

He beats the living crap out of Layne before that finale. I watched that fight only a week ago. Not a one-punch KO.

In regards to his earlier fights, let's just say the opposition was not of the highest caliber.

Timing is important too.....just like hitting a baseball...or in golf..
you "overkill" the swing and you end up with a pop-up instead of an
    HR.

Remember when feather-fisted Wilfred Benetiz "cold-cocked" Maurice Hope for about five minutes?

That is the reason I am going with "The Rock" based on his demolition
of Arnold Cream (sometimes known as Jersey Joe Walcott)
