The word is that they paid too much for these rights in the first place and they didnt get the good games, I hope this is part of a re-engineered business model that takes out high cost football contracts and focuses on other sports, maybe keep SPL...?
The beast of premier leauge football is damaging other sports. I hope Setanta are just ditching the EPL and actually offering sports fan what they can't already get, I.e strong, dedicated coverage of more niche sports like boxing, basketball, ufc etc. Then still offer a bit of football as well, european leauges, internationals etc. I think that could work. Although I do suspect this basically means they are ****ed, rather than the utopian ideal stated above
I hate to sound like a dumb optimist but there is no way boxing will go down the toilet. Sky will venture back into it surely. As has been discussed on other threads they used to show a lot of cards from the States live until Setanta stepped in. They showed the Berto card recently (albeit delayed) they're showing the John v Juarez rematch (again delayed) but maybe they're just putting their toes back in the water y'know. I mean they were quick enough to snap up Klitschko v Chagaev when they surely know how many people were disgusted at Wlad's last fight on Sky against Ibragimov. I reckon they're lining up Haye coz if they start showing Klitschko fights (Vitali too) it's the perfect build up to Haye v the Klit family. Anyway, I hope Setanta survive but if they can't find £10m for the EPL how are they going to find £50m for her majesty.
investor has pulled out! such sad news for us boxing fans, you all know setanta where actually doing better in terms of subscribers compared to sky at the same stage, bearing in mind sky almost went down under it shows you setanta has just tried to grow to quickly and there was total mismanagement, the ridiculous contract for the football killed it of, we can hope for some sort of miracle but can't see how they will survive now, can't remember a worse month to be a boxing degenerate R.I.P setanta, it was fun
exactly what im thinking, i couldnt give a **** about football really, so it would be cool if setanta didn't focus on it too much. i mean, i like football but you can get it on bbc and itv, then have a top euro leauge as well on setanta and thats more than enough for me.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Setanta existed prior to getting the EPL..losing it wouldn't necessarily destroy them especially if they overpaid and they kept the SPL. What will kill them are the debts, still I'm not throwing in the towel quite yet.
I always thought Setanta got good games. The middle of the roaders, whereas Sky got the really big ones and the really **** ones.
setanta is gone, and where is that ugly bald clueless fat fuk BUNCE when you need him? Probably talking to sky sports about a job. methinks. That **** of a "co-presenter" really showed himself up on the dole aisle the other night!
Well the latest is Setanta will air during the weekend but will consider the options during the weekend. The problem is setanta can't go back to the old days as they've got so much debt if they did it would take them years to pay it back. So they either need a big investor to maximise profits or pack it in.
pretty much, yh. they went out to get pissed, couldn't handle it, got raped by the cabi driver and now are dead.
