And how significant is the gap in skills between them?

Similar level but Beterbiev is more polished with better footwork. There is absolutely no way Benavidez destroys Joe Smith the way Beterbiev did, that performance was mostly technical ability, not just a display of power

Beterbiev. Better jab, better feet, and tighter defence. Arguably less offensively varied than Benavidez, but Beterbiev is clearly more polished overall and better rounded imo. Beterbiev at his best is a level or two above Benavidez but currently they’re about even.

Beterbiev. Not that I think of Beterbiev as some grand master. He is very textbook, great fundamentals, simple but does everything well. Benavidez, well I just don't really see what the hoopla is about.

Different skill sets. Beterbiev is more effective.

Beterbiev seems pretty basic to me skill-wise just unbelievably strong and fit. Benavidez has the better skills, he improvises in fights and has better reflexes and combinations.

Beterbiev has an underrated skillset. Many assume that he is a brawler because of his power and KO record, but he has subtle footwork and head movement achieved from an extensive amateur record.

Benavidez, the Monster, on the other hand throws flurries that, combined with his stamina, overwhelm his opponents, but I would not classify this as being as skillful in the context of the sweet science - hit, don't get hit using footwork, head movement, timing. He is underrated defensively.

I'd say Beterbiev, with his extensive amateur record and subtle boxing skills are "better" than Benavidez from a pure sweet science perspective, but the answer relies on the definition of "skill" in this context.

Both are underrated from a skill perspective.

Hilarious poll results as usual. Benavidez is top 5 in a number of compubox categories including accuracy and defense, and plus minus. He is clearly more skilled than Beterbiev who is a caveman in comparison. He is more skilled offensively and defensively and more versatile. As Roger Mayweather said, most people don' know **** about boxing.

haha what? technical ability? Smith just ran forward with no defense and got clubbed. David beat Yarde far easier than beterbiev did, so naturally you ignore that and go the Smith fight which lasted less than 2 rounds.

I'm not sure how anyone could think beterbiev has better defense than Benavidez? Even from watching their fights without looking at the statistics.

David is top 3 in plus minus on compubox which proves he has very good defense. Beterbiev not even listed. David is ranked 4th for opponent lowest power punch connect %. Beterbiev is listed because he has trash defense.

I’ve not see much of beterbiev, but from what I’ve seen, Benavidez is way more impressive to me

He is a grand master at what he does though. Benavidez is classic manufactured fighter. Fed soft touches on the way up, cherry picks old fighters and positioned into an advantageous spot to be ready to pounce when the current top dogs are old or retired. Beterbiev still smashes him pieces, and Bivol would win a wide UD.
