More skilled: Hagler or Archie Moore?

Roberto Duran was robbed of the greatest victory of all time, which would've put him as the undisputed GOAT of the sport, even if he only won by 1 round.

It was a very canny wily performance where he attempted to use all his guile and outfox his way to the win, that was his only chance and I think he may have pulled it off as well.
I have to watch it again but I still think Duran may have won more rounds and could and maybe should have been given the decision

 

I am not sure how you would compare them to be honest.

They were both about as good as it gets, but with very different styles.

Duran fought a GREAT fight with all said and done. Hagler won the fight, clearly, but Duran actually won the event. Post fight in real time by people that mattered saw Duran praised for a gallant effort (as much for going the distance and breaking Hagler's KO run as any fantasy about almost winning) while Hagler copped it for not dominating and stopping the smaller older guy. The AP had it 145-142, the LAT had it 146-141. They were better cards, the AP may have been a bit close if anything.

 

Moore is more skilled by MILES. Hagler was strong, tough and fit that's about all he had going for him, I would never describe him as skilled in the sense of the greats. Moore by a huge margin.

I had it 9-6 for Hagler.

The fight had 4 momentum swings.

Duran won the early rounds counter punching on the outside landing clean right hands.

Hagler took over in the middle rounds being more aggressive and outworking Duran.

Hagler let his foot off the gas in rounds 11-13 allowing Duran to comeback into the fight and tightening it up on the scorecards.

But Hagler clearly won the last 2 rounds by again applying pressure and clearly outworking Duran like he did in the middle rounds.

A few things to note about this fight.

Hagler sometimes in his big fights didn't have the right gameplan aka Leonard, Antuofermo 1, and it was the same with the Duran fight.

But 1 good thing in regards to the Duran fight is that Hagler learnt his lesson from the 1st Antuofermo fight in regards to not fading down the stretch.

I firmly believe Hagler purposely took his foot off the gas in rounds 11-13 so he knew he had something left for a big finish which he did.

Again learning from the 1st Antuofermo fight in which he mistakenly faded down the stretch.

I don't think Duran won the fight but he fought a very good bout. Officially I believe Duran lost by 1 point.
I think it was 9-6 Hagler. At the sametime there was alot of infighting and some close rounds. I've heard Duran was up after 12. I haven't seen that but if he was most people would agree Marvin swept the last 3 rounds. Younger with more left down the stretch.
Hagler's chin played a big part in keeping the title. Maybe the toughest neck in boxing history.

 

Calling Hagler unskilled in comparison to other greats and all he had going for him is being strong, tough and fit is absolutely crazy talk.
