I think Hern's height advantage is not enough to beat Floyd. Now I wont say Floyd will stand toe to toe with him, cuz a taller guy can get by that shoulder roll. Floyd would beat him like he beat Genero Hernandez. I almost think it would be an easy boxing lesson. I almost see Floyd bouncing around with his counters, too fast, landing from all angles, dancing. He was way smaller than Herns, I think it would be almost identical to Genero Hernandez fight, but a tad close cuz of the jab. You need an arsenal your not just gonna beat him with one punch. What about all the other punches Floyd will land, in comparison to that one punch you have? I think Floyd would follow SRL's approach, just way more slicker, and more ways to beat him. I think Hagler is the one who could beat Floyd DEFINITELY. Herns has a chance, but Its not definite. It would be tough as hell.

The only difference between this era and the "outdated" era is that nowadays boxers have this huge chance to follow their footsteps and take advantage of the things the "outdated" fighters built. Just like your boy benefited from having a father who fought in an outdated era next to Sugar Ray Leonard, and from an uncle who fought in another outdated era next to Pernell Whitaker and Julio Cesar Chavez.

Correction. It was something YOU and people like you, who don't know **** about any boxers from anytime previous to the last 8-10 years or so.

So to sum up, your idea of "skill" is being able and willing to stand in front of your opponent and make them miss, just like your not-so-secret crush, Mayweather. Let's forget the fact that that isn't at all what Mayweather does, but you live in crazy world, so it makes perfect sense.

I'd love to see your all-time top pound for pound fighters list... I'd bet it looks something like:

    1. Floyd Mayweather
    2. Floyd Mayweather
    3. Floyd Mayweather
    4. Floyd Mayweather
    5. Floyd Mayweather
    6. Floyd Mayweather
    7. Floyd Mayweather
    8. Floyd Mayweather
    9. Floyd Mayweather
    10. Floyd Mayweather

I must inform you that there are other criteria for skill, and that there are many other fighters that have earned that distinction.

Even more so than... Dare I say it??? FLOYD!!!! :yikes

Yea but even fighters like Ward, are smarter than SRL. SRL got in the ring and took a beatdown from Duran for 15 rounds. Ward or Bradley would have made an adjustment after the 4th or 5th round. Fighters of this era, make adjustments, they change their whole style just to match up with one opponent. Hop in the ring with the next guy, and have another new style. These guys are boxers AND tailors. They can give you a custom azzwhoopin. LOL

Im sorry, but Floyd is by far the best fighter skillwise, that Boxing eyes have ever witnessed. Man you had Great defensive fighters like Pernell, Pep. I mean it was plenty. Floyd was THE first perfect fighter. This guy has the offense, defense, patience, countering, accuracy, discipline, the intangibles, he can tie up, avoid an 8 count, when you have him hurt, he will take the risk, and walk towards your punches so he can fight you on the insides giving himself the opportunity to hit you with bodyshots so you will tire out while going for the KO, While he clinches and survives on the insides. This guy has skills that SRL has never witnessed before, so STOP LYIN!!

I say, like everyone, that Ray has a clear edge in power, handspeed, and the inclination is to say offensive arsenal too, but that isn't so clear.

Whitaker was a hell of a puncher, even if he had a lack of power, he could put his hands all over you, no matter who you were. Whitaker's offense gets a little overlooked and underrated.

He did hit hard enough to to keep a guy honest most times. He was deadly accurate and tagged you just about every time you made a mistake, and sometimes when you didn't. He didn't have the mentality of a puncher, or knockout artist, and was content to clown you and bust your ass the whole night.

No matter how you spin it, it's close.

Why don't you create a Floyd Mayweather thread and take this show elsewhere?

It would get alot of support and agreement in the General, and you'd get more of the what you've been encountering here if you posted it here...

Make your choice, but take your act out of this thread. You've managed to hijack it with all your Floyd love and he has nothing to do with the thread subject.

If you actually believe everything you're saying, you're ******ed. A normal person wouldn't come in a thread called "Pernell Whitaker vs Sugar Ray Leonard" to kiss Floyd Mayweather's ass.

And the fact that you're ******ed is not debatable, so don't bother responding to me.

    Ciao!

Leonard...Threw better and more varied combos. Seemed to have a better idea of when to load up. Worked up and down a bit more consistently than Sweet Pea, who tended to head hunt.

Whitaker...Defended better, and tended to be a better counter-puncher.

That said, SRL could counter pretty well, and wasn't nearly as bad at defending as others make him out to be. He out-defended El Radar when they fought- and not all of that was due to possessing an advantage in terms of speed/athleticism.

    Close call, this.

Can we call them equally skilled, in different ways? :think

    No?

Then SRL...Because the margin of advantage that he holds over Sweet Pea in terms of offensive skill-set is slightly greater than the edge that Whitaker holds over him in terms of defensive ability and counter-punching.

All I did was post facts. Its a fact, he tried to stand toe to toe and got beat up. He had to run in the rematch. A defensive wizard like Floyd and Pernell are way better. Why do you lie and say otherwise? Its not like you can prove me wrong. Just go away if you have no response, because you dont all you do is get mad and hate.:nono

Ray was greater all around. Pernell was great, but Ray knew when to pore it on and he wanted to take on the best to challenge himself.
