General Forum, let's hear your opinions.

Between 2 of the most skilled technicians of the 90s who would you say was the more "technically skilled" fighter in your opinion? Both boxed like an artist, were very well rounded, blended offense and defense perfectly, had very little weakness at their best, and were seen as one of the best boxers of their era. Whitaker and Lopez were also inducted to the IBHOF the same year as well (2007).
2 solid boxers but were still very different from each other stylistically. Lopez was more textbook style while Whitaker was more slick and relied on reflex and instincts.

Both highly skilled and I enjoyed watching them both fight. Finto more text book and Pea being a little more unorthodox. Pea fought in more competitive divisions has the better resume and beat better fighters so I would say him. That's not to bash Finito who was great in his own right.

Sweet Pea by a long distance. With respect to Lopez, who was also a great boxer.

It's really a matter of preference.

If you're teaching a kid to box, and you can only show him tapes of one fighter, you make him study Ricardo Lopez.

Technically flawless style that is repeatable if taught perfectly and drilled day in and day out. Juan Manuel Marquez downloaded all this.

SweetPea might be the essence of slick American boxing. Certainly much more unorthodox than El Finito, but so much of that is intangibles. You have that feel in the ring or you don't. The slipperiness, the angles, reflexes, eyesight, the feel cannot be taught.

I've only seen a couple of Lopez fights, but i will say Lopez, his punches seemed far more precise and robotic...

Whitaker had plenty of moves, but people forget how wild he fought at times...and he showed plenty of dirty tactics in the early days, especially against Roger Mayweather...
I think people forget that because he was so hard to hit

Whitaker was the more technically skilled fighter but it was more fun to watch Lopez than Whitaker. They both had different styles though. Lopez hit so hard and he beat 4 Thai fighters who challenged his WBC Strawweight World Title by way of K.O. That made me mad and could not forget him.

Very hard to say who's more skilled, Ricardo was the more classically styled fighter but Pernell had a phenomenally balanced arsenal in terms of offense and defense and operated at a higher level in both facets than damn near any boxer ever. I think the answer is simply who's style you prefer more.

GTFO with that. Honestly, it's not even a question. Whitaker is twice the technician that Lopez is. When did Lopez ever prove himself technically able inside? Whitaker's footwork was sometimes a little awkward, but he was a superb technician at any distance. Lopez only competes all the way outside.

What I mean is that Lopez is overrated by the hipsters. Fighters like Chang and Zapata were better.
