More technically skilled - Donald Curry or Ricardo Lopez?

For textbook skills I'd go with Curry, just.

I'd say Lopez could be considered more "complete" however...because he didn't really display any of the shortcomings of Don and he had more bang p4p IMO. Though maybe thats because he didn't face the same level of opposition and didn't have weight issues.

But I reckon whilst both had just brilliant outside and mid range games..Curry showed me a little more when up close..He had one of the most well rounded skillsets you are going to see.

Curry had more flair and improvised more with his textbook skills.Lopez was more consistently correct than just about any fighter, but rigid with it.

Lopez may have been the more comfortable of the two against quality unorthodox aggression.Something the more ritidly disciplined textbook types tend to struggle with...and he did to an extent against Alvarez while past his best a bit, but Curry's career was undone against it when he came in less than 100%.

 

Lopez power was probably exaggerated slightly because of the level of opposition and him being absolutely huge for a Straw, amazing he could make the weight in the first place really.Reduce things to just 112 probably puts him around the Gushiken\Pascual perez power range.There or there abouts anyway.

 

I would probably go with prime Curry over any version of Lopez, but he fell off after Honeyghan, so based on overall consistency, Lopez gets it.

 

Curry faced the far better fighters. He was the undisputed Welterweight champion which means so much more that being the greatest Straw weight of all time.

Curry outfought Marlon Starling on the inside. That is literally all you need to know when making a comparison between the skillsets of these men, but as I like them both they warrant further discussion. Curry was more rounded in where he could take the game.

Lopez, textbook brilliance, no inside game, beautiful at mid-range, in terms of aesthetics, right up there with the greatest punchers of all time.

Curry was a savant. Could pluck punches out of thin air, although probably not all that durable and unlike Lopez, unable to keep up his weight cutting for as long, which in a strong era was hugely detrimental to his longevity.

Lopez more consistent against weaker opposition in short. Curry more proven. It's what you like and Curry ticks more boxes for me.

Curry parried punches magnificently. When the subject of parrying comes up he'd be one of the first to stand out.

 

Curry sure had his **** together for a while.
