How does that come into play? The fight is scored round by round then the scores added at the end. He may not have taken it to the champ as you say but if he won the most rounds he wins the fight, regardless.

 

So it was a ckose SD, and the media had it razor close.

How is this a "robbery"?

He either won the fight or he didn't.

This "taking it away from the champ" means nothing.

 

I knew some idiot would bring that up. Trainers say all kinds of things that they don't necessarily believe between rounds to motivate their fighters in different ways. You can't take that **** to the bank. And even if he did believe it, he said the fight was close and that they needed a knockout. Not necessarily to win, but more likely to remove any doubt.

It was a close fight but like most of the press row, I had provo ahead slightly at the final bell. The 3 point first round made the difference. I'm not sure of his chances in a rematch though as I think Algieri has him figured out pretty well now. Some fantastic boxing skills on display by him. It would be a good fight either way. Not that I think Ruslan is capable of a bad fight as far as entertainment value goes.

 

Actually that's not true.

A lot of judges do not like to score even rounds and will give the benefit of the doubt to the champion in championship fights. The thought is, you have to prove you are BETTER than the champ in order to beat the champ. Being just as good is not enough to take the belt.

So while it's certainly exaggerated, it does have SOME truth.

Very close fight, props to Algerie, after rd 1 I thought he wouldn't see the 5th. Showed a lot of heart and class, but imo was only fighting to survive. Didn't take the belt as others have said. A nicely orchestrated upset by Arum. Now we get Algerie / Pacquaio and then a rematch with Algerie / Ruslan.

thats dumb....you dont go telling your fighter he needs a KO, that could potentially put him in harms way, if you dont think he needs a ko......

say what you want about the styles and algieris lack of power....but i dont care...you dont tell your fighter he needs a ko unless you believe that

its part of the reason that jmm lost to pac in the third fight...nacho and jmm decided to step off the gas thinking they had it in the bag.....if jmm pressed the issue a little more he might have won....but i think he was afraid of pressing it and getting hit with a KD....

i dont believe you tell your fighter you need a KO to win if you dont believe it....even if the other guy doesnt have KO power

 

also...i love the notion that provo is receiving hate due to association to roach/pac....and its just from "*****s"

cause ive seen a good amount of *****s rep and stick up for one miguel cotto over the last few weeks

its in your head....or what you want it to be.....but its not because of any association with roach and pac.....otherwise everyone would be shitting on cotto due to his association with roach and top rank
