Who would you say is the more complete fighter of the two? Both were supremely skilled boxer punchers, both could blend offense and defense seemingly well, threw great combinations and counters, good power in both hands, can fight up close or mid range, and possessed iron chins (both never being stopped in their career).

    Tough to decide.

    That is tough to decide.

Both could in fight, with McCallum being known for it and very skilled at that. However, Sanchez kept the pace and distance in his favor, the centre of the ring, more dominantly than McCallum IMO.

Both did their best work against aggressive fighters, possibly being weaker to lankier, rangy counterpunchers, especially Sanchez as seen in the Ford bout, though he figured Ford out and grinded a win out.

Sanchez's footwork was unquestionably better. Beautiful movement. McCallum of course was always in position to throw and defend, but Sanchez could glide, turn left and right, constantly changing rhythm.

I will give to Sanchez, as I am a Sanchez fan!

Good post. I also think Sanchez was faster.

I`d say Sanchez was better, I feel he was better than James Toney.

They are both extremely well rounded fighters. If there is a difference to be had it is that Sanchez may be the more naturally born fighter. He was so fluid and calm in there. Some of his gifts were likely genetic, and not just learned in a gym.

I think both were equally natural born fighters. They really knew how to box and were so crafty. I think McCallum had the better jab while Sanchez was the better counter puncher.

I am hard pressed to choose.

    McCallum had more power.

    Both had limited footspeed.

They seemed to excel at everything else.

    They were both great.

I feel like stylistically, McCallum was better suited to beat a wider array of styles. Sanchez would always have trouble with guys he would have to chase down himself. Maybe McCallum does too, TBF. But I feel like it's less of a weakness, since McCallum was a brilliant pressure fighter when he needed to be. Sanchez wasn't IMO.

What the hell does Sanchez have to do with James Toney?? Nobody here mentioned Toney yet you happen to pull his name out of thin air. You and only you find it absolutely impossible to stay on topic. Your like clock work

He hardly pulled it out of thin air. Toney fought a trilogy vs McCallum, and that's closest representarion of Sanchez he fought. It's pretty damn easy to follow the train of thought he took before bring Toney up, even if he didn't type it out.

Wow George did he really fight a trilogy with Toney?? How did that ever get past me especially since I saw those fights in real time.
My point was Mark cant follow any thread without comparing other fighters because that's his ongoing constant agenda.

It wouldn't surprise me if it got past you. If you can't follow a very simple thought path, it's not a stretch to think you couldn't follow a career.
