More Zuffa corruption - Bans another sponsor it see's as a rival

Discussion in 'MMA Forum' started by monaroCountry, Oct 20, 2010.

  1. One of the brands that won't be found on Zuffa's list of approved sponsors is the GOOD4U sports drink.

According to the beverage, it was informed Tuesday morning by Lorenzo Fertitta and the UFC that the brand will no longer be welcome in the UFC and WEC, beginning with this Saturday's UFC 121 in Anaheim.

"GOOD4U Drinks is seen by Zuffa as a direct competitor to Xenergy (which is owned by Zuffa) and AMP Energy which advertises heavily on both WEC events and Spike TV's The Ultimate Fighter program, and although GOOD4U are sport drinks not energy drinks, they have been taking share from these brands," Double D Beverage Co-President Rick DeBanks stated.

Chris Camozzi, Patrick Cote, Matt Hamill and Jon Madsen were four fighters who would have been sponsored on Saturday.

Former UFC interim champ Shane Carwin, who is sponsored by the drink and is prominent throughout the drink's official website, chimed in on Twitter his disappointment with Zuffa's decision.

"And another worthy, great, honorable company supporting fighters banned from the UFC," Carwin tweeted. "Thank you for making a tough road even tougher."

I can't wait until Wal-Mart buys the UFC and makes all the fighters wear blue smocks. That will teach Zuffa some humility and corperate greed.:yep

To be fair, they're not an advertising campaign, but at the same time fighters do not get paid enough for what they do. It's a thin line, either pay them more or let them have their sponsors.

Encourage you guys to not purchase the fights, I don't think I bought any of the zuffa products in the firs place other than the fights.. But you should probably find a replacement for xenergy. It's decent in a mixed drink from what I hear.

So fighting in the biggest MMA org in the world helps generate alot of sponsorship money. More so than any other org Id wager. But when the UFC says you'll have to find a sponsor that isnt in direct conflict with our own you guys got nuts> It's not like they cant find another sponsor is it, or is that just to much rational common sense?

The point is that for one, you don't get paid as much as other combat sports, therefore you need to get paid by sponsors.

Secondly, the same org that isn't paying you much is telling you what sponsors you can have. Zuffa has businesses outside of the UFC, that they will promote themselves is a given.

So, what happens when Zuffa starts putting out purely their own line of things, and only lets you be sponsored by their own business? Why not just pay the fighters more?

Will it soon be something more along the lines of who you are allowed to have as a sponsor, rather than a blacklist of sponsors you are not allowed to have? This is where it goes.

That Zuffa has their fighters rely on sponsors for the purpose of income should make some alarms go off in your head. But, of course your a Zuffa fan, not a fight fan?

As a fight fan, I'm not happy with it. As for business, it may be a good move. Depending on how people react to it. If I calculate it attributes a negative impact on my Xyience sales, then its a bad business move.
