http://philboxing.com/news/story-39519.html By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 May 2010 WBO bantamweight interim champion Eric Little hands of Steel Morel (42-2, 21 ko'S) has turned down a challenge by WBA super flyweight interim champion Nonito The Filipino Flash Donaire (23-1, 15 ko'S) who offered to step in for the injured WBC super flyweight champion Jorge Arce and face Morel in a scheduled title fight on June 26. Arce suffered a three-inch deep cut on his first day in sparring and doctors said he would need to take a two to three week break which made it impossible for him to be ready to fight Morel on June 26. Initially, WBO Oriental bantamweight champion Michael Domingo through ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer had offered to replace Arce but there has been no indication on whether matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz had been able to communicate with Morels handlers and fight promoters Top Rank. Donaire who is scheduled to see action on the Juan Manuel Juanma Lopez Bernabe Concepcion fight card in Puerto Rico on July 10 said he was prepared to face Morel on June 26 because he wanted to avenge the loss of compatriot Gerry Penalosa to Morel at the Las Vegas Hilton last February 13 in what was considered a somewhat controversial split decision. Being under the Top Rank banner Donaire felt it would be simple to step in for Arce, who was injured during sparring days ago. Donaire said "I think it'd be a great rivalry considering Gerrys older brothers (former two division world champion Dodie Boy Penalosa and brother Jonathan Penalosa) are in my corner." Donaire said. Jonathon Penalosa was visibly upset at the result of Pinoy Power 3 and shared the opinion of many that Gerry should have won that fight. Team Donaire claimed that according to Top Rank president Todd Debeouf the fight offer of Donaire was presented to Morel but he didnt hesitate to turn it down. Morel reportedly said "he'd rather cancel the fight all together than step in the ring with Nonito Donaire." Donaire who is ranked No. 4 in Ring Magazines pound-for-pound roster said he couldn't believe the news since Morel was willing to fight Arce and not him. A visibly frustrated Donaire who has been looking for worthy, name opponents since he knocked out Vic Darchinyan in the 5th round on July 7, 2007 to win the IBF and IBO flyweight titles exclaimed "Do I have to move up to welter weight to find some real fighters?"
Morel "reportedly" said sounds like this bloke should be writing for News of the world. Does that sound like he definitely turned it down, when he cant even guarantee the matchmaker has spoken to the team. I know he says Duboef has had some input but it could be more about money..I wouldnt blame Morel for wanting a bit more for fighting Nonito instead of Arce. Look it may be true but I do find this guy and other filo writers tend to fill in the blanks with their opinion to put their fighters in a more favorable light. It always seems like his main source is Mrs Donaire. Though I do really feel for Donaire...poor kid, he was promised the world but Arum is taking him for a ride. I know I say this quite a bit but I gotta have a chuckle at the fact he left Shaw when he was a just an emerging star because he believed he was wasnt getting him the right fights...now he is far more known, a 2 division titlist and whats changed really...Arum couldnt even get him fights with other Top Rank stars.
Donaire needs to stop pretending that no one wants to fight him when Vic is begging for a rematch and most fans wanna see it.
Jesus Boxed Ears...I was hoping I could get away with that but you are sharp today. I dont really...but there is little doubt he is among the best if not the best fighter at 115..even without a legit title.

" Sounds like a bunch of bull****, who says **** like ...""he'd rather cancel the fight all together than step in the ring with Nonito Donaire."" its just donaires team trying to make him out to be some kind of untouchable fighter, when the truth uis, since the darchinyan fight, he's been fighting a bunch of bums. Its just an excuse to fight anotehr bum.
perhaps morel has been training for and working on things for arce....and now a complete change of gameplan would be needed.... arce is tailor made for morel.. but none the less.... donaire would be the tougher and more meaningful opponent
Donaire hasn't had a meaningful fight in 3 years. Even the most high risk/low reward fighters in history have managed better than that. WTF is he doing wrong?
