Anyone have it closer than the judges? I actually scored it 113-113 although I admit there were some close rounds that could have gone either way. I liked Mares' performance, don't get me wrong, and I'm not disputing his victory. I just think 8-4 and 12-0 are ****ing poor scorecards and very harsh on Moreno.
2 judges got it right the other one was to into the fight eating popcorn and being to excited to score it so he just gave it to Mares as a shut out.
I thought the scorecards were weak (right winner), but the referee was pitiful and usually like him, tough night for him tonight.
The ref wasn't superb, I felt he intervened too much at times. James Jenkin's scorecard should honestly lead to a serious review of his place in the sport, I've never seen such a bad scorecard and 8-4 is still wide for me. This wasn't a comprehensive victory, Mares' face tells that story alone. I can understand why Mares would edge this fight, its a bit of a shame that there is always something to moan about though. He put in an honest, relentless-paced performance but seemingly biased refereeing and judging ensure he doesn't get the credit he deserves.
I actually agreed with Brian Kenny, don't think Moreno won more than a few rounds. But every round was competitive. I think the guys at ringside fell into the trap of scoring a round for a fighter who's doing better, but not actually getting the better of his opponent.
First round Moreno took early lead, 2nd was Mares, after that was competitive could of gone either way then alittle after mid-fight Mares executed brilliant plan chasing Moreno Duran-style. Mares easily winning by 2 points BESIDES the knockdown. Mares clearly landed more, but in the middle of the ring it was hardest to score tho early in the fight Moreno clearly superior. Later in the fight Mares figured him out and timed him perfectly. I'm a fan of punches landed Idc if its thru aggression or cleaner counter punching, etc
Brian Kenny is a bought off hack. This is the guy who agreed to play his role in that Pacquaio/Bradley farce just recently. Anyways the scoring was laughable but expected. Moreno won at least 4 rounds and a few others were extremely close. The judge who scored it 12-0 should be immediately and permanently removed from the boxing circle. That was an absolute DISGRACE.
I scored it 8 rounds to 2 for Mares with 2 rounds even. even though Mares fouled him at times, he clearly won the fight. but the ref looked paid off to me.
8-4 for Mares if you want to be extremely generous to Moreno. I don't care to watch Moreno or Lara ever again. If you want to play it safe and not engage that is all fine and dandy, but don't expect me to shell over my cash so I can watch a semi-track meet. I'd love to see Santa Cruz against Mares.
Had it a draw. Those scorecards were pathetic. That point deduction was asinine. Another Mares fight ruined for me.
120-106 was about right. I wouldnt have taken the point away though. Like mike said " so what it's a fight"
