I read many things like "Haye will destroy Mormeck" "It's safe to bet on Haye" "Mormeck is a mediocre 1D champion, Haye will destroy him"
Haye can win OK but it's not so evident imo. Mormeck is very underrated here. With a quick look on the figures it's easy to consider that a small faded natural LHW who fought at middle as a amateur will lose against a young technician with devastating power introduced as the future HW star !
People forget that Mormeck can box too. Mormeck can cut the ring, his defense is not so bad, he has good combos and he is much more difficult to box than expected for technicians. Watch the Hill fights : a pure brawler like Brudov obtains a boxing lesson against Hill and Brudov is not a bum (watch the Arslan fight). Mormeck has already fought taller guys, techicians etc. Nobody was really able to establish his jab or to keep Mormeck at bay : Gurov who was obliged to use the workrate of a lightweight was stopped, Hill with his good jab failed twice, Brown who was a good counterpuncher was destroyed, Braithwaite who was a confident undefeated boxer-puncher was floored and dominated, Bell who can punch failed in the end... About the Bell fight : stylistically Bell is a nightmare for a pressure boxer like Mormeck : Bell has good stamina, punch resistance, one punch KO power. But Bell is not so good against counterpunchers (the Brown proved it) . It's not such a problem for Mormeck who is more complete in fact.
Now Haye. An EBU title fight against Fragomeni in London and a fight for the unified title against Mormeck in France it's very different. What are Haye's greatest performances in the division ? Fragomeni ? Gurov ? Those guys were not even in cruiser the top 10 at the time Haye fought them. Gurov is good but fragile, he is taylor made for a guy with one punch KO power and it was not the first time he crumbled. Haye was a bit in trouble a couple of times under the pressure of the old Fragomeni. How will he react if Mormeck does not fall quickly as expected ? Haye is very impressive for people who watch the highlights of his fights but facts remain : he was floored by Mock and not very convincing against Abdoul. He was also stopped by the old cat who was the only top 10 at cruiser he fought (it was not 10 years ago...). Haye is good but his experience is still limited. It will be his 1st title fight. There are some flaws in his game , he has problems to use lateral movement under the pressure and it could be a huge problem against a inside pressure boxer.
I don't know if Mormeck has enough left to do the job . Haye is very promising but don't overlook the fight. Mormeck has always been honest in interviews. He said good things about Haye and it seems he is really impressed by Haye's power and abilities. But it would be better for Haye if Mormeck was underestimating him. Giachetti had an heart attack but I think Mormeck will be fully prepared though. It's strange to consider that it's maybe the challenger who underestimates the champion !
If Haye beats Mormeck in France it will be a great great victory for him, his first great victory in career.

nah mormeck is a great champion he is just a bit old now.his fight against bell was a fight of the year style thing.

but the thing is haye is far bigger than him bombs bigger shots and can box and move very well for a guy who can outslug most of his opponants.

Haye could potentially destroy Mormeck in a Foreman-Frazier I style... But I can see Mormeck doing the exact same thing to Haye!

That's the intrigue behind this fight: both can hit hard. Both can be hurt. In my opinion, it's going to come down to who has the skill to stay out of trouble, and the stamina to keep utilising that skill. We both know they're hard-hitting and offensively skilled; it's what else they have which will determine the outcome.

Not only is it potentially a cruiserweight version of Lyle-Foreman, it's also a meeting of two great nicknames- "The Marksman" vs "The Hayemaker".
