Robbery ? Oquendo had a clear strategy. He was waiting for Mormeck to gas to stop him as Bell did. Difference : Bell is a puncher ! Oquendo defended well, he clinched but the strategy didn't really work cause Mormeck is far to be as active as he was at CW. I understand Oquendo can feel robbed but he does not realize feeling comfortable is not enough to win clearly rounds. Oquendo fell into his own trap..of course he didn't lose but he also did virtually nothing to win. Many rounds were close, if you give the close rounds to the agressor the decision is not really surprising even if the pressure is not very effective. 2 low blows (1 by Mormeck, 1 by Oquendo..), a few hooks by Mormeck and a few uppercuts by Oquendo. Mormeck is not a HW and Oquendo is a guy who will always be "robbed".
I was not a safe bet to pick Mormeck. If Oquendo hadn't forgotten to land punches he could have stopped Mormeck ! A french referee, three french judges, a card promoted by Team Mormeck in France...and Oquendo expected to win a close fight just cause he controled the pressure well ? Listening to the post fight interview it seems that next opponent for Mormeck could be Holyfield even if he does not want to confirm.
Mormeck didn't want to give a name to Lustyk but he wants to fight a US boxer. Toney ? Maybe but Mormeck never mentionned his name. Anyway it could have been a very good fight at SMW/LHW/CW but I don't think it would be a good fight at HW. I hope it won't be Tyson ! Logical choice : Holyfield. And it could be funnier to watch than the Oquendo fight in fact.
Toney is busy in MMA. Seriously, he's under contract to face Randy Couture at UFC 118 in August. :yep
I can see it now: The good news for Fres? It will become a best-seller. The bad news? His publishing company will then decide not to pay up, and they'll subsequently give the proceeds of the book to Sven Ottke. Sometimes, a man's luck is just perpetually ****ed.
Oquendo was not "robbed" it's a joke. He has a awkward style, he defended well with a lot of clinches, he landed some uppercuts (often accompanied by dirty elbow shots) and he was not in danger but it's not enough to deserve a win. Oquendo's jab is poor and if Mormeck hadn't always initiated the action in the inside...no fight (1st round was really boring !). About Mormeck here is what he said about the next opponent : "Tyson... not now. I saw him and he is huge. Maybe Holyfield why not. Or another guy I think of now. The discussions have started, I will tell when it is signed." "Next fight on september or october" "I haven't deserved a rematch against Haye yet. Maybe after 2 good fights." What is clear is that Mormeck has improved much since the Maddalone fight, he has also worked on his stamina. He only looked really tired in the 10th round after 1 minute of full action. Who is this US boxer with a big name who is not Holyfield he thinks of ? RJJ is the guy who find contacts for Mormeck in the US. They are associated as promoters (the card with Oquendo was promoted by their companies) I just hope this big name is not...RJJ for a 2nd fight at HW after Ruiz !
