This weekend I watched the classic sports channel "Ringside" about the career of Lennox Lewis. It was just ok, however Tommy Morrision was there as a guest commentator. He made numerous comments about his fight with Lewis and other fighters. However at one point he said "Todays fighters are too big, too strong, and too fast for the older era fighters. Lewis would have cleaned up on Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, etc. In fact I would have knocked out Marciano myself. There is no 185 lb man that could have ever beaten me."

    Thoughts?

How big was Tyson 5'10? He would have knocked Morrison clean out. This is funny coming from Morrison because a hard hitting middleweight could have stopped him, let alone punchers like Marciano, Louis, Dempsey.

A little bit of nutrition and training and all of them guys are solid 215+, the optimal weight for fighters throughout history. You gain certain things with size, you also lose a lot: movement, speed, footwork.

When is Morrison going to be banned from fighting?

I can't believe an opponent would even consider getting in there with him to be honest.

I think he must have dropped the roids, as he looked very skinny.

Ruth was better. So was Mays, Mantle, Dimaggo, Williams, and probably A-Rod in the end. HaHa

I wouldn't disagree with Morrison's statements. Today's heavyweights are in fact bigger, stronger and faster than the old school heavies.

However Marciano was not your average 185 pounder. I think with his chin, power and relentlessness even at that weight he hangs with most heavyweights. With Tommy's stamina and chin I think even 185 Rocky could have broken him down. And in this day and age with advanced science and training Marciano would easily bulk up to 210+.

Is that because you dislike him, or because he looks ill, having had HIV (supposedly) for the past 10 years?
