If this bout had happened in 96(Morrison hiv positive)what would the result be?? Take into account Iron Mike being a shell of his formerself and pretty much Morrison's fast and absolutely huge left hook.. Even though Morrison's chin wasnt the best it was alot stronger than the likes of danny williams who would later beat tyson.. I would give it to mike but **** it would be a great for the 6 or so rounds it lasts.
Should Mike take a bite of Morrison's ear, he would get more than he bargained for the next time he makes a trip to his local sexual health clinic. In all seriousness I would say 1996 Tyson would win by KO, probably round 5. After all, Tyson looked pretty good in '96 when he demolished Bruno. Some people even mistakenly think Mike was back to his best against Bruno in '96 - this is not the case but he would still have too much for a '96 Morrison. You are right though, given Tommy's preformance against Ruddock just a year earlier it would be interesting for a round or two.
Agree with your post...What did you think about morrison? I know he wasnt a great or anything but i still would of had him in the top ten of his era and if he didnt get cut down with hiv at 26yrs old.. I believed he had a few good performances in him with maybe a another world title to his name.WBO probably.. For godsake shannon briggs, john ruiz and hasim rahman won titles for godsake and all three beat legends.FOREMAN,LEWIS AND HOLYFIELD. Morrison the poor ******* had the tag Great white hope hanging over his head which led to people expecting a little too much from him.. Still a good fighter i kind of wished was still around as the heavyweight division sucks ass these days.
Well, theres no doubt Morrison had a lot of heart, grit and determination (something sorely lacking in some Heavy's these days) and he was exciting to watch. However, his lifestyle didn't do him any favours - I believe he liked to party a lot. He also got stopped a couple of times most memorably against Mercer - what a great brutal finish that was! Then there was the shock defeat to Michael Bent, maybe a fluke or down to Morrison's overconfidence or even his crazy lifestyle, maybe even a combination of all three. I mean Morrison was good but like you say he wasn't anywhere near great. His character has also diminished in my eyes after the recent racist comments he made about black fighters and then you have his delusional problem of not being able to accept he has HIV - he claims it was all a mistake. Yes, he has been unlucky in life and to a certain extent in the ring also but a lot of fighters have had tough breaks. So in general I don't consider him underrated.
I don't think Morrison makes it out of the first round. Tyson was still pretty fast and aggressive and Morrison has slipped past what little prime he had. Morrison just doesn't have the smarts to outwit or outbox Tyson and his chin was suspect. He (Morrison) gets dumped onto his backside with a left hook, struggles up by 6 and is in trouble when the ref waves Tyson back in. Mike misses with a few wild shots before connecting with a right hand and Morrison falls flat on his face. At that point, a count is pointless and the fight is waved off.
Didnt hear anything about the racial comments(im from australia). But yeah he seemed to be his own worst enemy.I quess his ability went to his head at times which led to over confidence and undertraining. I feel he didnt fullfill his potential..I think he could of finished his career with more of a legacy and maybe a level below lewis, tyson and holyfield.. But hey i have been watching heaps of fights from the 90's lately and his seemed to be the most exciting so maybe im getting a little carried away. Just seems he gets little respect when i think he was still one hell of a fighter. Mike Tyson and Tommy Morrison. Two blokes who ruined themselves and by the sounds of things continue to do so..VERY SAD...
Morrison had good skills and a lot of power, particularly in that left hook, but his stamina was awful and there is no doubt about it - he just didn't take solid shots too well. The Mercer fight demonstrates my point beautifully. But yah, he was exciting and fun to watch.
His last fight would of been a good win over Raddock and at age 26 Morrison wasnt shot just yet.. Though find it hard for Tommy to handle Mikes bombs for the whole 12 rounds.. In saying that how would mike handle it if tommy connected with his right upercut and huge left hook.
Tyson was not what he was but I still think that would've been too much for Tommy. Both guys can throw hard but Tyson can take it a lot better. Would've been a very entertaining bout, no way Tommy would've gone quietly, but Tyson by KO in about 4 rounds. Definitely would have drawn a big tv rating though, and a big payday. Tommy always planned to retire after fighting Tyson...things turned out an awful lot different to that!
i'm a big tommy fan and iron mike fan but i give the nod to tyson, tyson was just an all aorund better fighter even tho he was only a top 5 hw at that time, i'd say tommy was also a top 5 by a fringe from 6, the racist comments from tommy are nothing new in boxing, he can say whatever he wants cuz no one is gonna try and stop him cuz he can back up his talk, many a black fighter has had **** to say about white fighters with nothing made of it, but really who cares, anyone who thinks skin color makes or breaks a man never grew up, its 2007, like tyson, said its a hurt business, nothing friendly
This post makes as much sense as what would have happened if a onelegged Joe Louis had met a one armed Muhammad Ali?
