Haven't seen the fight myself but according to reports his left eye was bleeding for nearly the entire fight and both eyes was shut by the end of the fight.

Here is a pic, post fight:

Score fights, where 116-112, 117-112 for Mthalane, 115-113 for Oliva. As I said, haven't seen the fight but getting an SD in your own back yard, history has taught us that you might be fortune, although credit to Mthalane who obviously had to undergo a major gut check with his eyes in that state and it was his first fight- and an IBF title fight no less- in over 18 months.

Hopefully Mthalane can get his name in the mixer amongst the deep Flyweight pool along with the likes of Akiria Yaegashi, Juan Francisco Estrada, Giovanni Segura, Roman Gonzalez, Brian Vilioria, Edgar Sosa, Hernan Marquez and Luis Concepcion

PLEASE NOTE: THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT EITHER PACQUIAO OR MAYWEATHER SO DON'T TURN IN INTO THAT ****S :deal

Some of us had a very nice discussion on Mthalane a couple months ago:

    http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=450945

At that time, Mthalane was scheduled to make a mandatory defense of his IBF flyweight title in Thailand vs the Thai fighter Amnat Ruenroeng. However, Mthalane eventually decided to vacate his title about 10 days before the fight was scheduled; he was due to make only about $11K for that fight, and he pulled out on the promise of a fight in South Africa that would have earned him nearly $100K. Maybe his fight vs Oliva on Saturday was that promised fight.

Ruenroeng ended up beating Rocky Fuentes in January for the vacant IBF title. He subsequently travelled to Macau last month to attend Zou Shiming's fight vs Yokthong Kokietgym. At that time, Arum announced plans to get Shiming a world flyweight title shot by the end of 2014, and specifically targeted Ruenroeng (LOL as if Arum would match Shiming with Estrada or Yaegashi!!!). I had previously thought Mthalane was shortsighted to vacate his IBF title, considering how dynamic the flyweight division currently is. But now that decision looks even worse, as he could have had what would probably have been a BIG money fight in Macau vs Shiming. I'm glad Mthalane now has a world title again, even if it is the lesser IBO title. He is a Top Five world flyweight, and I really hope he can find his way back into the big money fights that he deserves.
