People here are so quick to over use the old and shot phrases over and over when a good fighter is dominated. Maybe its Shanes mental make up. Look at his losses Forrest a superior boxer never let him use his natural speed and good power and Shane had no answers. Winky-Shane was neutralized by a good jab and good D and Shane was taken out of his element putting up very little. Floyd-After some success Floyd survives big shots by shoulder roll defense not allowing follow up from Shane. Floyd provoked goes into a gear Shane does not have. Shane getting countered and hit easy and often reduces out put because he lost his mental edge. He can't figure out his defense and how to hit Floyd and his not willing to be countered for his misses. He quit in there. He was not gassed. If he was gassed his upper body movement and his bouncing on his toes would not have been so active in the fight. He also still threw late maybe even more than in the middle rounds (especially when Floyd took breaks). This allowed Moseley to throw. It happens good fighters get beat bad by other fighters it happens. Moseley killed Margo and he gets all the credit in the world. I'm not saying Shane is not mentally tough. He won battles vs Oscar and Vargas, and Mayorga and others. I'm saying when presented with a better more skilled guy who takes away his game he folds.
Shane's weakness is a good boxer period. The Forrest-Mosley fight could've been a draw and even then he resort to wrestling and didn't think in there. He also look frustrated fighting Cotto when Cotto was able to keep him at bay with the jab.
Floyd did what he had to do and he dominated the fight against the WW champ BUT don't disrespect Forrest and Winky by comparing, what they did to a much better Mosley and what Floyd did to this version of Mosley. No one's blameing him for doing his thing he has now beat the WW champ twice but lets leave it at that.
true that man,hes old but hes not out of shape, and keeping in the gym and being in 1 training camp before floyd fight meant he would have been sharp. But the hard to hit style and movement and his early sucess with landing his powerful right hand changed everything for him. regardless though i still respect and admire the guy for his great skills character and entertaining fights hes given us. He shouldtn retire like this at all,he should have the unifaction bout with berto,i expect him to KO berto who stilll with fast punches young legs and some power is a challenge but isnt that hard to hit which allows shane to win with ease. Even after that possible win i think he can possibly beat williams or martinez, both dont have much of a defense, sure martinez footwork is tricky, but both can be hurt and Shane could KO them both.
I don't know as PBF is more skilled BUT he would have had much better speed, stamina, and better reflexes. After the 4th round it looked like they moving at 2 different speeds, Shane for the first time ever got Outclassed in the speed department. A prime Shane would've made things interesting with his speed just as Judah did. I give PBF his props, recovered well, came back in dominated the fight I just don't think people should act like the 38 yr old SSM was in his prime. BTW I gave Cotto ZERO credit, for his win over Shane.
