Moses Itauma vs Filip Hrgović for the vacant IBF Heavyweight title set for August 29 in London

Yeah. I can’t disagree with anything you’ve said.
At bare minimum I hope he has a proper test this weekend.
Pickings are slim these days so everyone is hoping for the new super star.
My head is level on him so far. Let’s see what he does.

 

Yeah seems like a similar situation, but I am born too late to know.

 

I agree that he is overhyped a bit, but he seems really good. Technically sound and very fast with both feet and hands. Sneaky in his attacks and a lot of probing in there.

I saw glimpses in his defense that might point to something like him preferring to go straight backwards, mostly working with distance (i myself had that flaw in sparring, too) and maybe not the greatest backfoot game when pressured to the ropes. But all of these are only hunches as we didn't see him exposed to much of a danger so far.

The worst thing I see about him is that he needs to go a bit closer than many other heavies because he has less range and his technical preferences are hooks and shorter punches and even his straights arent super straight.

That's where I can see hrgovic controlling the fight if his jab is super good. And he beat dubois' jab which is really good. So that's hrgovic's best chance to me.

But I don't see great flaws in itauma's defense - can you point it out to me?

 

So his test would be the second best HW in the world? That's beyond being tested. That's one of the fights for the future crown.

 

I think it's a bit too soon to call him the second best in the world just yet. That could change in a few months rather quickly...

But I agree it's ridiculous that his "test" would have to be against a belt holder when his fight with Hrgovic is literally for a heavyweight world title.

 

Should be an absolute ripper of a fight

If Itauma cant get rid of Hrgovic faster than Mike Tysons win over Berbick then he is a hypejob

If Itauma was elite he would have the speed and power to blitz upright chin in the air Hrgovic, if he can't do this he's a mediocre heavyweight. I think he'll gas out in the late rounds

 

Hrgovic has faced some of the heaviest hitters in the division and held up well. I think you're being a bit unrealistic...

 

Hrgovic is in great shape. We may be getting a classic here.

 

Excited for this fight now, it's the best heavyweight fight of 2026 as far as I'm concerned.

Predicting that the lead right hook will be the key for Itauma.

 

If he doesn't blow Hrgovic out early there's a very good chance this fight will answer some questions regarding Itaumas chin, stamina and heart.

Even though it was over 7 years earlier before facing Tyson, Bernardo Mercado had already chinned Berbick in round 1. Hrgovic has never touched the canvas by a legitimate punch.
