Moses Itauma vs. Filip Hrgović & Sam Noakes vs. Denys Berinchyk + Nelson Hysa vs. Thomas Narmo RBR.

Hrgovic winning is a win for boxing. The working class man. He grinded out a win from the Jaws of defeat. The middle aged man beat a young, overhyped lion. If Itauma won he's the next Mike Tyson or better. But he didn't. Andhe's not.

Hrgovic did the boxing world a favour.

 

Going in I said the only question is Moses has never started round 7 before.

This ended like Lemieux vs Rubio but a higher scale.

It's not that Moses didn't try his hardest he just proved he can't pace himself.

Re inventing himself to pace himself could show he throws less per round. He could pick his shots wiser.

But to change what he does easier said than done. He could fight the exact same style again and he either wins by ko or gasses again.

I don't think he was smoke in mirrors he just was a 6 round fighter.

 

Hrgovic has been a revelation in the build up to the fight and his interviews after. He speaks well and is a class act. Looking forward to how this new era plays out. There's some good fights to be made at heavyweight.

I hope Itauma can come back stronger after this and get in the mix. Devastating loss. He said in an interview that he was going to quit boxing a couple of years ago as he wasn't in love with the game. This loss might just push him to walk away. I hope the injury to the leg isn't too serious and mentally he can process and learn from this experience.

Great, gutsy performance by big Filip. Written off by the boxing pundits but made history by becoming the first Croatian Heavyweight World champ. Queensbury need to look after him and make a stadium fight in Croatia for him. He earned it.

Was at the boxing in London last night. What a great experience. Been to 3 fights before (Burns v Mitchell, Brook v spence and Josh Taylor v Vazquez). And drank and them all and it’s just a blur. Decided to stay sober at this one so it hopefully would live long in the memories. The disrespect Hrgovic was shown by the crowd made the win better, Croatian anthem booed, Lad behind me shouting things like “Come on Itauma, do this bum in 1”. Thought Hrgovic won through mental games as well as the psyical side, he made sure he was in the centre of the ring roughly at 5-10 seconds left of the rest every round. Thought Warren mentioning hes hurt his leg was a bit of disgrace. Absolute buzzing with the win. Got a sore throat from shouting Time and time again prospects get over hyped in boxing. Saying that I don’t think Fury or Joshua and many others would have taken the hits Hrgovic did. Can’t see Itauma coming back the same after this due to confidence issues. But a guess I would have said the same after Joyce loss for Dubios. Also first time at the O2 and the sound system sounded class. Had an account on here for 10 plus years but hardly ever post. Thought I’d share my experience and thoughts.

 

I know people won’t care or believe me, but I argued with a lot of people saying Moses had no reason to rush, dude had 14 fights and was 21 years old. People were saying he needed to fight the best right now even though he’s 21, which made no sense to me. Going from Jermaine Franklin to Hrgović was a monster leap. If I was his matchmaker, I would’ve never put him in there with Hrgović and his 15th pro fight.

 

I think I said a while back that Itauma was being brought up the right way, but that he should go the BBBofC and EBU route. This would have taken him 3 or 4 years at most, and he would have gained invaluable experience. Instead they got him a few solid tests that he passed too easily, and now his inexperience revealed itself.

 

It was an exquisite fight and one that will live on for many a year. I watched it with a glass of fine French wine and eating caviar by the bucket load. I was wearing a tuxedo and pulled up to the arena chauffeured by none other than Sir Jackson England himself. I smoked Cuban cigars in the lobby as I was escorted by a 1950's doorman from Sussex, London. I sat ring side with Sir David Beckham and Prince Harry. After the event I went to Buckingham Palace and had a lovely plate of soup with thick, crusty bread baked freshly at Harrods.

T'was truly a night to remember.

 

You definitely have something weird against him for whatever reason.

He didn't perform terribly, he won all the preceding rounds bar 1, max 2. He was pinging Hrgovic's head round after round. His defense is v good, he just needs to tone down offense, alter pacing and lose the deadweight (Davison). He clearly is world level talent

Still he gets overhyped. He couldn't put away a guy he was dominating for 8 rounds. He gassed out and was seconds away from being knocked out.

That's not world class.

It’ll be interesting to see how he handles it mentally. Future opponents will not have the same “fear” or respect that his opponents to date have had coming in. At least one of his attributes isn’t world class and it happens to be a pretty important attribute (gas tank). People trying to play it down are just making excuses. Gassing like that by round 9 in a fight where he mostly dictated the pace is not good. David price would have been the best heavyweight of all time if he had Antonio margaritos chin and gas tank……but he didn’t, so he wasn’t.

 

Itauma didn't lose because he was exhausted. He lost because he was getting ****ing hit with punches.

In the last 45 seconds of round 8 Hrgovic hit him with three hideous right hand body shots. You can see Itauma clearly struggling after the third shot.

One of the last few right hands in round 9 bent his whole neck over sideways and that was followed up by another solid right hand.

The lack of acknowledgment of the effect of those punches on Moses is outrageous.

"He lost because he was exhausted"...it wasn't a race it was a fight...he's not a marathon runner he's a boxer. If he's not fit enough to get through 12 rounds of heavyweight boxing whilst getting hit, then maybe Ben Davison can get him a gig running mixed fitness classes at the gym.

 

Only difference is 1. Moses is young and will adapt 2. Not many have Hrgvoic's chin

Itauma's failure was pacing and cornering. Itauma should have taken rounds off with advice from his corner, he was clearly breathing heavy from round 3-4 onwards. He did not need to be throwing heavy combos in the last two rounds, especially when he was hurt

It's a shame he lost, because now the morons come out in the drove shouting hypejob, when realistically a few tweaks/ and even a bit more experience he would have won. Hrgovic for 7-8 rounds looked pretty clueless n there

You can't call a 20 year old guy he takes 8 rounds off a seasoned pro and olympian, a hypejob. You've got to be a real moron to say that
