Thats actually a good idea, I've been watching a lot of footage of Berto leading up to this fight, and I think that is the strategy he will have to employ.:hat
Yep, cling to referee and depend on his judges. Collazo beat Berto but the judges came to his rescue.
Shane isnt invincible you know and is coming off a period of inactivity, ive got Berto outlasting Mosley to a close decision
Shane has got some thick skin. He is super tough. I haven't seen any top fighter take as many clean shots as him and survive.
If Shane uses the fast, stiff jab over the pawing, range-finding jab this fight won't last too long. That is the only difference.
Just watched Mosley-Margo, and Collazo-Berto, and I'm making it official, Mosley TKO 11!, It will be stopped, Sugar Shane is going to make a statement to Floyd in this one, and Floyd will have no choice but to sign with Malignaggi as fast as he can!
I havn't watched that one in a long time, I remember I watched it live on FREE HBO!!! I remember it was one of Mosley's first fights coming back down in weight and he looked extremelly fast. Collazo is no joke!
Keys to victory for Mosley. 1. Keep this an inside fight. Berto looked absolutely horrible on the inside against Collazo. He had no idea how to defend on the inside. When Collazo was unloading he would just stand there. He wouldn't push his opponent off with his shoulders or elbows, wouldn't turn on an angle to cut down on Collazo being able to hit him flush, didn't take a step out or to the side either to get out of the in-zone or get a fresh angle for attack, etc. He just traded shots. Get on the inside and stay there. Take Berto to war. He nearly bungled a war against Collazo, and Collazo is nowhere near as fast or as lethal a puncher as Mosley. 2. Overwhelm Berto, don't let him get comfortable or into a rhythm. Berto has never been in a fight this big before. Put the pressure on him from the opening bell and don't let him get set, keep him off his game and with his composure cracking. When that happens he'll make inexperienced mistakes to add onto his bad habits. Look to take advantage of it. 3. Use your handspeed. Mosley is one of the few guys who can match handspeed with Berto, something Berto is completely unused to. Since speed and athletics are two of the biggest advantages Berto is used to having, negate them by pushing speed as much as possible. Don't load up for big shots right away, instead mix the big shots in with little shots. Make it so Berto doesn't know what's coming next or from where, even if you're sacrificing power to do it at first. The worst thing Mosley can do is go into his mode of loading up on huge right hands because he slows down his feet while he's loading up and he slows down his handspeed in throwing them. This gives Berto a perfect chance to pick a spot, counter, and move, which is about the only way Berto can win this fight. Instead, keep the punches tight instead of looping them, and the delivery quick.
Keys to victory for Berto. 1. Stick and move. Shane's footwork has never been his strongest point, because he's always preferred to just get in there and fight rather than to box. It's gotten worse in recent years though, where Shane's feet have looked more and more awkward and clumsier. I think I counted at least 3 times in the Margarito fight where Shane was moving backwards then suddenly slipped, lost his balance, and had to grab ahold of Margarito. His legs aren't what they used to be. This doesn't mean that Shane will tire over 12, because he's never shown any signs of that at 147, but it does mean he may have a hard time chasing you down if you keep your movement fluid, or pop him then disengage, move back or to the side, or clinch him. 2. Play counterpuncher. If Berto is doing a good job of staying on the outside, Shane is going to get wilder in an attempt to force the action. That's the perfect time to use straighter, sharper punching to continue to frustrate him and to pick him apart if he starts losing his form. 3. Stay composed and keep you head in the game. Mosley's camp is going to be banking on Berto losing his cool and being drawn out his plan. Don't let it happen. Fight defensively, don't let Mosley draw you into a close fight. Stay defensive/countering, keep moving, control the pace with clinching just like Mosley did with Margarito. My prediction: Mosley by mid to late TKO or decision. I think Mosley going to draw Berto inside and break down his defenses. Berto will have to fight carefully to survive from then out and won't be up to outboxing Shane. In addition to that, the difference between corners is going to be like the difference between Pac's corner and Cotto's corner again. Shane proved that he can follow Naseem's plans to perfection and adjust according to directions. Berto's has repeatedly missed advice to give him in order to try to change fights. Mosley gets another nice win, as long as he hasn't fallen apart in the year he took off.
