Who goes on about him? All I ever hear is how he's over-rated. Maybe you ought to read around more often. Anyway, I'm a fan of Berto, likeable guy, has the combination of speed, decent power and explosiveness to make for exciting fights, although the fact he gets drawn into close-quarters and holds kind of spoils them most of the time. Great amateur pedigree aswell, beat Bradley twice of course, can't believe he beat Dirrell twice aswell. He's got the talent in terms of intangibles, quick, accurate when he wants to be, slick and his stamina is fine. I watched the Quintana fight again a couple of hours ago and he was a bit sloppy. I still don't like the way he back-hands his jab half the time, but it's decent when he uses it properly. Everybody knows about his uppercuts, and his right-hand - especially the counters over Quintana's straight left - was functioning perfectly. I dunno, he just needs to sort through his defensive flaws and find his range a bit more. I don't think there's much that the likes of Pacquiao or Mayweather would worry about, as for Mosley, I don't know. I thought Berto might have UD'd him the first time round. Not sure whether my opinion's changed. Not sure how much it will change after the Mora fight because I've never rated Shane at '54 and I think stylistically it's a bad match-up, I reckon he might drop a majority. If Shane back at '47 against Berto turns up confident and at the top of his game like against Margarito, could be a short night for the Berto we've seen recently. If Andre can sort his defensive flaws and negate Shane's right hand, enforce his speed and find his range, he might give Shane some problems.
This is how i see it, legacy has gone out the window, belts dont meant a thing anymore. its about $$ berto isn't afraid of mosley, mosley isn't afraid of berto. What it comes down to is if hbo pays me this amount for this fight i want that amount or im not fighting, then it snowballs from there. Its human nature to want more then you got b4 and not only that but if these fighters lose than the fear is i will have to take less, if they get paid big bucks for less risk why have more risk and earn less money, because in that risk comes making less in the longrun if they come up short. Ive listened to some recent interviews with berto, and the guy that used to be aint around anymore, why? because all one has to do is look around in the boxing and what you see "with most" new talent is this nasty lil trend, berto isnt the only one doing this. At the end of the day it sucks for the fans but it is what it is. shame tho..
I've said this from the jump he should have fought Berto instead. Him deciding to fight Mora is bizarre.
Mosely never ducked anyone. If anything he campaigned to get fights he should never have taken. Had he known how to duck he'd have a much more impressive resume. I have nothing but respect for Shane and his throwback mentality.
HBO gave Berto wayyyyyy too much money for fighting stiffs. Now he thinks he deserves all sorts of money to fight, and is turning down good fights.
I think Mora is a poor matchup for Shane. But, he is Mexican and they are fighting in California with some good Mexicans on teh card so that will draw some good PPV's and fans. Berto thinks he is worth too much. He couldn't draw anyone to watch him in his own hometown and he thinks he deserves 50/50 against everyone. He has been spoiled. Let's hope he wises up and starts taking some shorter money to build up his resume.
taxed %40 yo i think these rich guy taxes makes the rich greedier then ever I dont care who mosley fights tho we have no right to be pissed that a fighter is taking the better money, we will not raise his kids and take care of him when brain damage takes a toll how many of yall donated to joe frazier to get him out of that Gym he lives in?
You figure with the weight drain and name Mosley deserves 60% of the purse. Berto needs to wake the hell up and take the fight. If Mosley looks anything like he did against Mayweather at 147 Berto is going to have a coming out party.
To a degree that's true, of course. It's also part of the reason boxing is dying a slow tortured death. Fighters fighting once or twice a year. Sure, fighters want to maximise their income per fight, I would too. As do promoters etc. But these guys (promoters, managers etc) don't give a **** about boxing, and are slowly killing it. Boxing for the next generation of fighters (or the one after that) will be ****ed. And the promoters will simply move on to MMA, cage fighting or whatever else is around at the time.
All good points. :good I highlighted that inactivity part because that's what really gets up my back at the minute. Berto being a prime example. Kid has so much to give to the sport!
Mosely aint fighting Berto because originally before the Haiti crisis, Berto agreed to 40% v Mosely, now he wants 50% even though Mosely was only beaten by the best fighter in the world.
