Cotto did very well to stand the firepower that Shane put on him.. He may have crumpled a year or two ago but seems to have obtained more durability over the last 18 months. Shane did not just quit , he did more than enough in many ringsiders eyes, but in my honest opinion , Cotto did shine and just edge out in a close and highly entertaining fight..
Nice post. Cotto showed an excellent chin, recovery abilities and will last night. Mosley hurt and stunned him on several occasions, and he took it, moving out of range when necessary. The guy has a big heart.
I actually thought the fight was fabulous.. Shane did a lot of solid work, but Cotto is turning into a very tough warrior who may have the capability to dominate his division.. 2008 , a great year for the welters.. a lot of exciting prospective matches..
I don't think he really knows. There was a lot of urgency in the corner as the fight went on. BTW, esb disagrees with you. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28041
They should have a rematch. That's if the Hatton/PBF winner doesn't want to fight Cotto. Who knows, matbe Hatton and Mayweather will end up rematching too.
I would like to see it but not as much as Cotto vs Hatton and Mosley vs Mayweather, and if any of those doesn't happen, at least Cotto vs Margarito... I also expected Shane to outbox Cotto but he didn't, now going as far as to say that Cotto outboxed Shane, I don't know... He fought a smart fight and used a good left lead which most knew it would be a good weapon to use against Shane... But they say he out-jabbed him and mentally he beat him. Cotto won and is a Top Welter no doubts about it, but he won in the same fashion Williams beat Tony and is a Top Welter himself - Shane and Tony are still Top Welters.
Nicely put. I doubt that Cotto would get near Mayweather, i think that his feet are just a bit to slow. He may however be able to work on that to improve. Ricky vs Cotto would be a fight i would like to see would be as exciting as there would have been in a while, !
One thing that I am noticing is that because Cotto decided to switch from his pressure style fighting in the last rounds, everyone seems to automatically give the rounds to Shane. However if you watch the rounds again, Cotto was doing an excellent job of moving around and connecting cleanly against Shane, more than Shane on him. I'm just saying that let's not automatically assume a fighter lost a round just because he switched tactics.
Hi guys, i have been a long time reader of esb and thought after such a great fight that i would make my first post:happy Great fight between two warriors i had the fight a draw although i could see Cotto winning on the judges cards. Mosely threw everything at Cotto and to my amazement Cotto just kept coming at him, would love to see a matchup between Cotto-Mayweather!
Mosley got tagged more than you've ever seen because he was in there with Cotto .... Collazo, Vargas, etc. didn't come close to winning .... Shane looked great against them and looked good against Cotto too but Cotto clearly won !
If you watch the replay, Shane clearly nods (and claps) in agreement of the decision the moment it is announced. In the interview: Max Kellerman: "Do you think you won":
Again.. in the interview with Cotto: Max Kellerman: "were you hurt in any way" (when discussing the 9th)
So.. with those two posts from THE ACTUAL REPLAY OF THE INTERVIEWS.... you have it directly. Now if the BBC or NY Post are quoting from another interview like the press conference, you may have a point. It appears at least that the BBC is not and is quoting from the interviews in the ring.
