I'm suprised by the attitudes of many, regarding Mosley. I've been a big fan of his since following boxing againseveral years back. I loved his fitting style and humility outside of the ring but I realize that whilst he's the same man outside, the ferocity and talent he once had, has now gone. I said before the Mayweather fight that it shouldn't be close and it wasn't. The 2nd round was deceptive and the difference in class and age was apparent. Despite that, people still think he is a relevant fighter - Why? He's not looked in any recent fights and his best performance was against Cotto, a fight he was clearly beaten in. The time he looked really impressive before that, was against a shot version of Vargas or injured Collazo. I just don't see anything impressive about his recent run. I think he's looked old and diminished for years. There is of course, one fight I've not mentioned: Margarito. Regardless of whether he had used wraps previously or not, he was definetly affected mentally by everything before the fight. Maybe he thought he couldn't win? Maybe be though his trainer had been cheating him? Whatever the reason was, he wasn't there mentally. If you follow what most people say, it's likely Margarito had his hands wrapped that way before. If that's the case, all his victories have to be doubted. They are tainted. If he had used them and people think they were so dangerous be should be banned for life, then what is he without them? For him to be banned for life, they have to give him a huge edge and if he was lacking that edge, surely Mosley beaten him would have been a formality? I'm not saying that Mosley is a complete bum or whatever, but you have to be realistically about it. He's not beaten a top opponent that you can't follow the praise with "...but" since beating De La Hoya the first time and he hasn't looked impressive against any fighter in years, if you exclude Margarito. I just don't think he beats any elite fighter. I thought Berto would beat him and I still do. Should he fight Cotto again or Clottey, he gets beat easily. Talk of a Martinez fight is as absurd as a Pacquiao bout would be. He's had a great career but it should be over for him.
I don't think we can right him off just yet. It's similar to the way alot of people have dismissed Marquez since he fought Mayweather. Floyd just has the ability to make great fighters look ordinary. I agree that he hasn't looked that great in recent fights but he still beats most fighters out there. Margarito was made to measure, you don't walk down Mosley with know defence and expect to finish the fight. That said he has little left to prove and I wouldn't be surprised if he calls it a day.
You're right mate! The show is over. I was at the Mayweather fight and he looked on the verge of being shot to ****. In my opinion Oscar dominated him in 2003 and he hasn't looked like the same man for a long time. The Margarito win was sensational but that cheating piece of **** was made to order. I don't think Clottey beats him, even at this stage, but I thought Berto was an EXTREMELY live underdog. He has a lot of wear and tear from amateur and pro fights and gym wars since he was a kid. He's almost 39. Hang em up!
He cannt compte with the top contenders anymore. I think its up to him now to either stay and fight lower ranked people which he could do with some success for 2 or 3 more fights if he has an active year or two. If not he should bow down gracefuly and retire. He has money he is a no doubt hall of famer and dosent have anything to realy give anymore.
He's a three wight world champion, former pound for pound number one, current pound for pound entrant and an ATG. Bow out - fighting up and comers and meaningless fights is a waste of time and legacy.
sugar shane can beat anyone (in welterweight possibly ligh middleweight) who isnt pacman or mayweather. He got tired becuase of floyds movemtn and missing shots and hunting for the one big punch withou success. hes old,but hes not physically incapable. dont write a fighter of by losing 1 fight to one of the best of all time. bertos so green, hes open as hell, collazo schooled him already, mosley will knock him out.
You're dreaming mate. You think he would beat Martinez or Cotto (who already beat him)? I would actually pick an in shape Spinks to kick his ass. The reflexes are gone. I love the guy and hoped against hope he would beat Floyd. I almost KO'd my girlfriend with my elbow when I was at the fight and he buckled him. We need to face facts though, the show is over! I could actually see him struggling to lead, never mind counter. Too many wars!
I still Marquez can be the best at his division. I can't understand him being written off because he jumped up two weight divisions. His problem that night, was the huge gulf in speed. It was far too much weight for him to add. That said, at the lower weights, I don't pick many to beat him.
I dont see him bowing out on a loss to be honest. I think he has 1 more fight, probably with Berto. I actaully had Mosley winning this fight comfortably pre-earthquake, but now i think it will be a lot closer. While i still expect him to win, i will not at all be shocked if he losses again
How can you say you were a big Mosley fan yet discredit his win over Marg? Also if you've been following his career you'd know he has problems dealing with boxer-types such as Forrest, Wright, Cotto(well boxing won him the fight versus Shane), and recently Mayweather. Not being mean but I'm just being honest. Boxers always made him look bad but remember he has been inactive for a little over a year, ring rust is a pain GBP screwed him.
i believe you say that partly now as well because its after the fact mayweather beat him... i think it was mayweather beating him in every way... and i agree with everything else except the margarito fight. he didnt win because it affected margarito mentally...margarito still tried... mosley was ready... mosley wanted it he knew what he had to do to win... he took that fight bad from margarito and beat him with some vicious shots to the face that made me wince in mere observation
