Now I know Shane would never take this fight because of the risk/reward, but the more I think about it, the more interesting this matchup gets. You have Shane, who is clearly a better boxer, but gives up considerable size and age advantages. Then you have kirkland on the other side, with questionable chin and missing world-class opposition that Shane has in spades. No matter how you look at it, and no matter how long it lasted, you know it would be a ****in' WAR, because neither guy backs down and loves to throw bombs. :good
Shane would lose this fight. He is not a 154 pound fighter and Kirland would walk right thru him. Yea Shane is a great fighter but he is not the same young cat who gave Forrest and Winky good fight on his way to losing all 4 fights. James wont stop Shane, but he gives him a beating on his way to a UD win. In this fight, size matters.
See, I would instictively agree with this, except remember Mayorga came into the ring @ 170 POUNDS(!) when he fought Mosley, and Shane still knocked him out.
I would lean towards Mosley. He's a pretty knowledgable fighter, with a lot of strength, a good chin, good power, and good boxing abilities. Kirkland wouldn't be able to just beat Mosley using pressure. He also probably wouldn't be able to outbox Shane. I believe Mosley is a bad matchup for Kirkland.
What elite fighter has Mayorga ever beaten? He loses to all of them and the shot one that fought Shane still went a hard 12 rounds with Shane.
I love Shane, but feel his age will show against a big dude like James who just comes forward throwing nothin but bombs. Only question will be how would James deal with what Shane has to offer, Cause I'm sure James will eat plenty of leather.
Shane and Kirkland are the same height. Shane weighed in at 160 for his last fight at 147, Kirkland weighed in at 167 on fight night for his last fight at 154. I don't think there would be much of a difference in terms of weight either. Kirkland is your typical swarmer. He also doesn't concentrate enough on defense and gets too much coming in. A guy like Kirkland will struggle with a puncher. When you add in that not only can Shane punch, but that he can box, and is adapt at holding strategically, you can see why it could be a difficult night for Kirkland. The saving grace for Kirkland is that Shane does not like to fight lefties. However, if Shane can adjust to the Southpaw stance, he would eventually force Kirkland to change up his strategy as Kirkland would be getting tagged too much on the way in and he would struggle to hurt Shane.
Shane would beat Kirkland similar to how he beat Margarito....by walking him back and landing the right hand all night. Size in this case will be negated by skills. Mosley is simply too good of a boxer to lose to a one dimensional Kirkland.
Shane would beat him handily. Shane's chin is almost ATG...he's rarely looks even remotely bothered by a punch.
I wish this fight happened tomorrow just to prove my point. Either guy can win but feel James pulls it out.
I gotta disagree, I think Shane kills him, knocks him out easy. I've seen Kirkland hurt a few times by nobodies and he's wide open. he just has alot more will than skill. But to counter your point, what elite fighter has Kirkland beat?
Gotta start somewhere. James is just getting his feet wet. Julio hit James pretty good in there fight and he showed a very good chin. Shane is not a big hitter at 154. Vargas and Mayorga are past prime fighters who made Shane look good again. True Shane beat Margorito up pretty bad, but that could had been one of those last great showings that every great fighter produces towards the end of thier careers. I'm a big Shane fan so I'm not hating on the guy.
I agree w/ Shane Erich -- I think this would be way too much of a step up Kirkland. I think he needs some serious training about boxing not attrition!!!
