That's how I see it. Mosley lost the decision, but I believe that it was the best possible loss scenario for enhancing his public image and legacy. He came into a rapid Madison Square Garden and not only held his own, but gave Cotto tons of problems. As a result, a 36 year old Mosley loses a close decision to a rising superstar in Cotto.

In Cotto, people are going to continue to question the judges on this decision. In addition, people are going to be questioning Cotto's decision to box the last few rounds. And if Cotto barely beats an old Mosley, how would he manage against the younger, quicker Mayweather?

i think in theory it sounds like you're right but in fact this is one of those decisions that is really not very controversial, and that in a short period of time it will go down as a close but clear win for Cotto.

I think this was a much better performance then mayweathers fight against oscar and oscar is aged and has 2 losses to mosley. I think mayweather cotto is a toss up.

Mosley may had lost the D, but has added more fans and admirers to his already-large legion for his classiness, likability and general sportsmanship.

Shane Mosley prime for prime is faster than Mayweather, even now he is almost as fast as prime Mayweather, he is also stronger than Mayweather. If Mosley faced the same opposition as Floyd he would also be undefeated.

Post of the Year. Could not agree more.

The difference between the two is that Shane challanges himself, and PBF doesn't. Or hasn't since he went to 140.

He could have lost in worst ways. Knock out, for example. He lost in one of the best manners, after a very close and competitive fight. But this loss can only damage his legacy, imo. Of course it would have been better if he won.

I wouldn't say that this enhances Mosley in any way. He lost a fight that many thought he should win. At this stage of his career, it is too late for those types of scenario's. Now, if it happened the other way around, this would make sense. Cotto has his entire career in front of him, and could have taken it as a learning experience, and a contraversial loss against a legend of the sport. For Mosley he just lost to another top fighter, keeping the theme going that other than his fights with Oscar, he hasn't been able to pull the trigger in big fights. Unless we toss in the Vargas affair.

Good and compact post. You said it all.

Ow how I hate that they still haven't another scoring system!!:patsch
Not because I am so pissed that mosley lost, I am a fan of neither one.
But JUSTICE seems non-existent in boxing. Dammit!

Now for the rest of our lives we will have this doubtfull "W" in cotto's resume and mosley's "L"

    :patsch pfffff

After a fight like that both fighters win respect and real fans. Guts, determination and a high level of skill on display. No major losers beyond the fact that one guy slightly edged out the other.
