Always thought something was off about their first fight. Margo walked thru the best shots from strong natural welters like P Willy, Cintron and Cotto but he couldnt withstand a near 40 year old blown up lightweight Shane Mosely's?
Well there were rumors of him having a poor training camp and possibly he wasn't there mentally since he knew he was gonna be in trouble, but Margarito showed no signs of diminished punch resistance against Mosley. The reason he finally got stopped by Mosley is because has hit over and over and over and over with full-on, flush punches that Mosley was loading up on and getting leverage on. None of those other guys hit Margarito with the frequency and power that Mosley did. Williams was extremely active, but threw a lot of arm punches. Cintron landed good punches, but not as often as Shane, nor was he really effective in getting to Margarito's body. Cotto was largely fighting on the backfoot and a lot of punches he landed, he wasn't getting leverage on. Emanuel Steward was right that Margarito was picking off some of the punches, and a lot of the punches he did take, Cotto didn't get much power behind. Margarito did take a lot of good shots, no doubt, but it gets overstated and it was not like what Shane did. Shane went to Margarito's body and head and countless flush shots that he loaded up on. Mosley had left 135 ten years earlier and was a normal sized welterweight. He was always huge at 135.
Yep....not only that but Margarito has to get past Maromero ! Unless this fight has already been settled then they should really stop looking past him...!!!
Yeah, the last time Mayorga actually looked good in a fight was against Vernon Forrest. (R.I.P.) He's completely shot.
Antonio is far from broke. He is actually doing very well. I know he must be salivating at the thought of getting his hands on Steroid Shane in a level fight, something he never had before Just make it in a neutral arena with an honest commission & with VADA doing the drug testing. Richardson & 50 others can sit & watch Antonio's hands wrapped just to make sure Naz doesn't fantasize seeing any more " PLASTER BLOCKS" he claimed he saw last time ROFLMAO. I know I'll be ringside if it happens to watch Antonio kick ass !!! The Tijuana Tornado !!!
Antonio had a terrible camp he had back problems & could not spar & train properly but FIGHTER that he is he refused to back out. He had obvious problems making weight & was weight drained. Then he was faced with the ludicrous " Plaster BLOCKS" pantomime. When he gets to ring he was faced with an almost certainly juiced to the gills Mosely !!! Antonio never stood a chance
If guys like Margarito, Mosley, and Mayorga are going to keep fighting then why not fight each other. A Mosley-Margarito rematch would be irrelevant to the 154-160 pound landscape but it would be a fun fight.
I disagree with you about the quality of Williams punches. P Will caught Margo with plenty of clean quality punches especially thru the early rounds which was why IMO Margo was so hesitant those rounds. No one had ever come at Margo so fast like that before. About Margo vs Mosley - I do agree with you that being busted for something highly illegal so close to the opening bell must have weighed heavily on Margo's mind and his whole gameplan & thought process might've got thrown off course. Also, If Margo did in fact have problems in camp with his weight and injuries then that probably explains why his typically reliable punch resistance went south that night. Just to be clear I'm not trying to take anything from prime Mosley as a puncher but at age 37 his firepower would have to be considered a few MPH behind the above men we've mentioned who were in their physical primes.
