Ey Guys, this thought just crossed my mind.

how come these two have never met?

size wise, they would really be a good match. how come this fight has not materialized?

    Martinez is a middle weight.
    Mosley sucks above Welter.

because martinez has been well known for about 5 minutes, fights in a different weight class, has a career on a completely different trajectory, isn't really a marquee name for a semi-retired fighter like Shane, would beat him comfortably in a non-competitive, meaningless fight. I'll think of more rasons if you like.

:patsch martinez started out at lightweight or jww if I am not mistaken. he lost to margo early in his career. :-(

and mosley has fought at 154, so fight history wise, its not like their weights did not intersect at some point in time.

He was a nobody back then, he was fighting bums and no one considered him a top class fighter.

When they were at the same weight it made no sense (with Mosley in the driver's seat, as Martinez was too obscure).

Now, they compete two divisions apart and it makes even less sense (with Martinez in the driver's seat, as Mosley is shot and wouldn't be able to earn a middleweight title shot if he tried)

was martinez really that obscure back then. i know he started boxing late, but was he that a fringe fighter back then?

i remember reading about him 5-7 years back and I am in asia. surely, in argentina and in the US he has made name.

No. Outside of diehard boxing fans nobody knew who he was until a few fights ago.

He fought Margarito on a PPV undercard all the way back in 2000, and then was more or less absent from American TV until his HBO coming-out party against Bunema in October 2008 (having fought Russell Jordan on a Versus undercard and Saul Roman on the Spanish-language Telefutura in the 8 years between Margarito and Bunema...hardly high-profile appearances).

Nobody really knew anything about him until about two years ago. Hell, he was so unknown that people were glancing at his record on Boxrec and betting on Archak Termeliksetian to knock him out! http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69408

Martinez tried to make his first title defense against Mosely. I was shocked and appauled when people thought that was okay.

We're living in post-Pac times, boo. Divisions and the physiological limitations that make them necessary don't exist anymore!

:lol:. well, there is always a money fight.

for 6 rounds, mosley would be game because martinez is not exactly spring chicken.

    :lol:fair enough.

at 154, dlh could have fought this guy.

i wonder how that would have panned out. both with strong left hooks.

Oscar's last 154lb fight was a year and a half before Martinez-Bunema. It never could have happened. With the exception of the Forbes tune-up at lightweight, Oscar only participated in big fights against big names in the twilight of his career...and Martinez didn't even start to become a big name until after Oscar had retired.

It's too bad Martinez didn't get his break years earlier. We missed out on many potentially good match-ups.
