GBP CEO Richard Schaefer told FN's Freitag that a very exciting doubleheader is in the works with LW champ Nate Campbell vs. Juan Manuel Marquez and Sugar Shane Mosley vs. Ricardo Mayorga on the same October PPV card. :happy

I agree... but July's PPV is the Cotto-Mayorga show and I don't think HBO wants two PPVs for that month.

True. Why the date so far away. Nate says he is ready now Mosley is ready now. Mayorga has been training and losing weight for a while now and Marquez is dying to get in the ring as soon as possible. Marquez wants to beat Nate to get to Pac one more time. These fights should take place by July.

Mayorga to get his ass kicked by Cotto in July and then by Mosley in October. You must of meant Cotto vs Margarito in July.

I'm not too crazy about the possible Mosley-Mayorga showdown, but Campbell-Marquez is definitely a fight worth looking forward to. This is a pretty good card.

I really don't understand that why aren't they making Mosley-Judah as they've originally planned... it's far better than Mosley-Mayorga...

I think Mosley wants to follow in the steps of Tito and Oscar. My thought is that he wants to be the third man to beat Mayorga down. Vargas wanted to do the same thing, but he was never in the same level as Tito, Oscar and Mosley. I wonder if the fight is going to be at 147 or a catch weight. Mayorga is coming down from 165. Nah, this is going to be a mismatch. Zab should be ready by then unless it is more than stitches.

Don't get your hopes up about Campbell-Marquez happening in October. Shaffer can talk all he wants. He does not represent Nate Campbell. Myself and Don King do. We have something else we are working on for July-August, and then our name goes in the hat for Pac's November date, assuming he wins on June 28. I can assure you, with the other thing we are working on, and Pac's next move still unknown, the ONLY scenario I could see where we would agree to an October fight with Marquez, would be if our other plan for overseas somehow fell through, and Pac either lost on June 28, or if Arum made it obvious we would not be considered for Pac's Nov date. Otherwise, we would really have little interest in a Marquez fight. He brings nothing to the table except maybe some halfway decent money. And believe it or not, money is not the first criteria in our decision making process. Our mission statement reads like this....
    1. Become "undisputed". (can't really accomplish this at this point since Casa won't fight Nate, but maybe down the line it could happen)
    2. Pick up the last remaining real belt in the division, the WBC title. (this would be the Pac-Diaz winner)
    3. Fullfill the necessary mandatory defenses to retain as many of the titles as possible. (most likely at some point it just won't be possible, but we will try)
    4. Get paid. (our belief is that if steps 1-3 above are accomplished, then #4 takes care of itself)

As you can clearly see, Marquez does nothing to assist in achieving goals 1-3. So the only reason to fight him, is if no other fight that WOULD apply to items 1-3 is available. And I hate to refer to Marquez (who has been one of my favorite fighters for his entire career) as "busy work", but that's really all it would be. And believe me that's no reflection on Marquez as a fighter, thats just a reflection of what the fight itself would represent.
