Can you blame them Top Rank are pretty tough to deal with I can imagine that they would ask for a pretty penny for any of their shows especially if it was on PPV.

 

Would certainly add another dimension and selling point to the show but I doubt it will happen Frank won't want to give up any part of the shows budget to buying it and Top Rank would want a portion of the PPV sales which is hardly fair.

Heres my "logic"!!

IMHO Harris is completely finished and will get KO'd by the much better Ortiz in a couple of rounds at most. Baldomir is also past it but he might manage to drag Alvarez, who isn't that good, into a bit of scrap before he gets beat.

 

Berto is shocking, Mosley would still beat him IMO.

 

Baldomir v Alvarez will be an ugly, ugly fight. I'll bet against anyone who disagrees. Baldomir is atrocious to watch. He'll smother, he'll headbutt, he'll elbow the crowd will boo... need I say more.

Harris is severely flawed and Ortiz will take him out inside 8 I reckon but with Ortiz's vulnerability Harris will have a go. He still packs a wee punch so he does.

 

Setanta used to have a Top Rank deal. Sky could not only afford it, there would be quite a few cards that they do as PPV's.

 

You think Harris will last more than (say) 4 rounds? And is Ortiz that vunerable? I don't see that fight as having any potential for being anything other than a one sided KO.

 

Maybe Sky haven't gone with Top Rank because of their deal with Setanta. Top Rank would take the money if they had the option. Remember when Bob was on Buncey's show he was grumbling about their fights not being picked up by anyone, or something like that.

 

thats not how it works. it doesnt cost much either, sky probably paid no more than 40-50k to goldenboy for saturdays card. obviously you then add the costs of sending over a commentary team and so on.

from a sky and warren point of view only a hard core boxing fan would be tempted to buy marquez vs lopez....and they will all be getting th ppv anyway.

also with the magnificent 7 being 7 12 round fights, the sky team could end up being on air for 6 hours+, theres no way they can do a US show to, would mean being on air live for half a day. just not feasible.

 

Setantas deal with toprank was for £140k a year.
Sky would pay around 50k for a Mayweather/Pacquiao/De La Hoya fight and 30k for a mid range fight like Cotto. Guys like Berto will be even less.
Sky pay about 70k for a Friday Fight Night.

Gaz, I agree Harris will get blasted out very quickly. I don't rate Harris offensively at all to be honest, and Ortiz is durable enough to not get demolished by Maidana for the rounds he was in there with him, and still ate some monster shots. He can learn and make adjustments from that fight.

Still, Id be pumped for Alvarez Vs Alfonso Gonez, would anyone else agree? Two chaps off the first Contender, only Gomez Vs Alvarez is a good fight; if not that, Randall Bailey (doubtful they'll take the risk but bar his power, immense I know, he's got a lot going for him as a potential opponent, not amazingly durable, naturally smaller, old etc) or Selcuk Aydin, who is fairly useful but has been shown up to not be all that.

Baldomir may be a 'name' (and he's hardly that) but despite his experience, I think there are better learning fights out there for Canelo, and fights that would be entertaining to boot.

Delvin Rodriguez, who they were talking about before last week, is still a great choice IMO.

 

Ortiz is vulnerable no doubt. I expect him to take care of Harris comfortable but I think it'll be more entertaining than a fat Baldomir and a ginger mexican.

 

I know it sounds simple and that's the maths and figures I always see but if that is the case then why don't we see it more often? Especially with something like the Super 6 which is missing a genuine world class event to help sell the show to fans that are only interested in world class Boxing.
