i agree that #1 is basically impossible for any of them. as many posters have said better than i could, too much is being made of small victories and hype. the fact is that pac is already in most people's top 50 and many top 30s. he has the best chance. the problem is to jump much further he'd need another stellar group of competition like he had with the 2000s featherweights. all time greats (greb, robinson, ali, duran, etc.) usually got their status by beating other all time greats or dominating their eras so thoroughly they were beyond question. pac got a huge boost by beating (like previously stated) all time greats in barrera, morales, marquez and diaz (jk!). however, to get any higher, to compete with the other elites ahead of him he'd need to dominate/fight a comparable level of opposition. beating on almost rans won't get him any higher. the difficulty is, that level of competition simply doesn't exist currently. selective match making and hype won't make any of them a legend. nor will beating each other. pac can move into the top 20 with a win over mayweather, may higher if mosley is in the mix but no way do any of them breach top 10
Arreola seems to be hardest hitter these days. If you substitute Arreola=Choynski Johnson=Vitaly will your example makes Adamek (215lb) =Walcott if he beats Arreola (250lb) in April?
haha, man you are really on joe walcott. but a good shout out to my favourite "heavy" of the pre war era: choynski. ****er was a demon who fought any and everybody and may hold the most legitimate win over jack johnson in history
Yep. If Floyd gets those two wins, he takes a serious jump in ranking and starts knocking on the door of some very high all-time rankings.
#1ATG is not written in stone in any sport. Unless that sport for all intent and purpose dies. Ask Micheal Jordan, Jack Nicklaus (eventually will be replaced by Tiger Woods), Micheal Phelps, Jeff Gordon (eventually replaced by JJ) - all of them took over the spot of #1ATG that many people considered at one point "impossible."
Many people would say thi is absurd but if Pac beats Floyd and goes up and beats the winner of Cotto-Foreman for the LMW belt then retires, it will be a matter of time before his name will be mentioned alongside SRR, Armstrong, etc.
I don't think you're really getting it pal. It was a tiny Welterweight destroying a small Cruiserweight by todays standards.
Boxing is not laid out as it was in previous eras; unless the way it is conducted changes, no one will ever top the achievements of Greb:good
because it's obvious that despite his lack of historic achievement, and superstar status to date, Paul Williams would represent the stiffest challenge to possible for any of these guys, at WW or JMW. Which is why even Mosely has continued to say "No Thanks"
But that is no different than small LHW Jones beating full grown up Ruiz ... right? Otherwise small PAC beating bigger Floyd or bigger Mosley would play better since Joe Choynski is nowhere near Mosley's or Floyd's level.
neither of them have done enough or can do enough to be considered #1 ATG. Unless they end up being like Hopkins and fighting till they are in their 40s. And the way it sounds PAc is about to retire and im pretty sure MOsley will too. Also those 2 with their styles wont last as long as Hopkins. PBF however does have the style to last that long but he also has a fragile body so i dont think his body will last that long.
