Back in the day, before the mandatory 8 count, there was no "go to your neutral corner" rule after a knock down...After JESS WILLARD knocked out JACK JOHNSON for the heavyweight crown, he defended it against a young rugged JACK DEMPSEY..in the first round, DEMPSEY flurried with a right left combo that sent the giant WILLARD crashing down...now, while he was down, DEMPSEY stood right over him waiting for the champ to get on his feet so he can knock him down again ...over and over...DEMPSEY would drop WILLARD and stand right over and behind him so when he gets up, he'd get put down right away...now, things have changed and almost 100 yrs later, the rules state that after a knockdown, the standing fighter has to remain in a neutral corner for at least 8 seconds...my point is, i dont know if anyone noticed, but after MOSLEY knocked MAYORGA down the first time, he hovered around him, didnt bother to go to a neutral corner...he was actually standing behind the ref and as soon as MAYORGA stood up, he was greated with a lethal left hook by a surprizingly close MOSLEY...i rewounded it and watched it over and over again, and ..thank god for that blind ref, we got a bad ass knockout!!!
Mosley didn't attempt to hide or anything, the ref just let it happen. Shane actually passed in front of the referee's field of vision as he was checking Mayorga and giving him the count. Then Shane slowly strolled over and...
He didn't go to the neutral corner but the ref gave Mayorga a few extra seconds anyway and stood between them for a second so it didn't matter
