What I love about boxing--and unlike any other sport, in my opinion--is that in addition to the actual fights, we boxing fans get almost as much pleasure envisioning how a fight is gonna play out. We do this because boxing is brutal and usually definitive. We don't know for sure if these guys will ever meet again. A lot has been made about Mayweather being "forced" to fight Mosley after the Pacquiao negotiation debacle. I didn't see it that way. Mayweather picks opponents the way he fights them: calculated. If anything, I saw Mayweather being "forced" to fight Pacquiao more so than Mosley. So much of the fervor over this fight has more to do with Mosley's most recent showing with Margarito than with anything Floyd has done. Mosley's thrashing of the bigger, stronger Margarito (a fighter who Floyd avoided like the plague) two Januarys ago has got many convinced that he's the one to put an end to Mayweather's run. Meanwhile, after an 18 month layoff--yes, it was a layoff--Floyd returns against the smaller, weaker Marquez and looks like, well, 'Money' Mayweather. And so... ...Round 1 begins with Mosley firing hard double jabs and right hands to the head and body of Mayweather to get inside. Mosley will look to move to his right and concentrate on tenderizing Mayweather's left shoulder and rib cage. Mayweather will let loose accurate single left hooks and over hand rights but look to cover up as he gets mauled to the ropes. He'll seek to escape as soon as he feels his back touch the rope and try to reset himself in the center of the ring. This will repeat itself over the course of the fight until... ...the early and dedicated body attack begins to slow Mayweather just enough for Mosley to start landing cleaner headshots around the 10th or 11th round and score a TKO in the 12th. Mayweather will be clearly faster than Mosley and his accurate and clean potshots will wow the crowd at times but will not hurt Mosley. In fact, I have a feeling that he may damage them against Mosley's hard head. This is gonna be a dogfight and Mosley, being too strong--physically and mentally--isn't going to give Mayweather the space that he needs to do his work.
All I am going to say is Ricky ****in Hatton was able to bully Floyd to the ropes and make Floyd find another way to beat him rather than Pot Shotting to a UD, Mosley is much stronger and far more skilled Floyd has his work cut out for him.
I think this will be a fugly fight with Mosley using a hit-and-hold gameplan after realizing his reflexes aren't sharp enough to box with Mayweather. I've said from day 1 what Mosley has to do in order to have any chance at winning this fight, and I'm thinking Nazim and Shane see the exact same thing. Mosley still has speed, a speed advantage? no, not in that he is faster then Mayweather, but he is faster then anyone Mayweather has fought since Judah. But his speed is effective in short bursts, like it's always been. So to utilize this speed against Mayweather, he needs to use it to get off first. Maybe with a lead right, which probably won't land but it will get him inside to wrap up Mayweather before any counters come back. And it will look like he is controlling the fight, he will be the one initiating the exchange and then walking floyd back once he grabs him. He may steal points this way. His strength? Well that isn't an advantage at all if he never gets a glove on Mayweather. So, IMO, he will need to utilize his strength by clinching and wrestling. Thats the only way. Mayweather is too good with his footwork and positioning, his timing and reflexes are too tight for Mosley to think he is going to be able to bang away at Mayweathers body from even the smallest of distances without grabbing him. That's just the way I see it. Mosley's ONLY chance = Fight Bernard Hopkins type of fight.
I see a one sided schooling by PBF. I hope everybody can give him some credit and not just say that shane is spent.
Mosley will be more willing to leave himself vulnerable in order to find a way of penetrating Floyds defensive/evasive technique. This will at times leave Floyd ideal opportunities to land picture perfect, precise counters, but as long as Mosley hits something, then he's going to be wearing Floyd down, enough so for a late round KO. It's a long shot, but I've got a fiver at 20 to 1 odds lying on it!!!!!
Mosley was frustrated when he tried to outbox Cotto who Mosley was very caustious against early because of the power but when he came forward he hurt Cotto and had him running, Mosley is at his best against guys who can't back him. PBF is a much better boxer than Cotto BUT he is not as big, or strong and after all the trash talk, I can't see this not turning into a dogfight early.
