Watched it yesterday. Amazing fight and both showed tons of heart. I had it 115-113 for Mosley, but Oscar was winning till the 11th. Mosley just had a couple percent more in him and seemed to finish the big exchanges more. Oscar was right there with him though going punch for punch. Best punch of the fight was Oscar's left hook that wobbled shane in the 4th. I haven't seen too many fights that combined that much speed, power and furious exchanges. Arum said Oscar fought a stupid fight and said Oscar was making his CD while training for that fight. Oscar's fiance at the time, Shonna Moaklar (playboy), said Oscar was severely depressed after that fight. Mosley though, doesn't possess the power I thought he had. He nailed Oscar with everything and at most buckled his knees once but didnt even wobble him. Oscar put too much emphasis on trying to be a warrior, trying to erase the Trinidad late fight marathon. He did that definitely, but lost the fight he should have boxed to a win with.
It was a great fight, no doubt. I had it 115-113 for Mosley. But after watching it, I can't help but think this would have been an even better fight if they'd met at lightweight, back where both men had one shot KTFO power. By the time both guys were at welterweight, it seemed as though both men were more of accumulation punchers than people who could starch guys with one shot.
Shane stole it in the championship rounds. Typical of Oscar to run out of gas at the end of the fight and Mosley brought the fight to him for the win. Good fight... I wouldn't call it a great fight though. No one was ever seriously hurt.
A great fight...a real skillful slugfest!! Oscar owned the first half, Mosley the second....Oscar should have boxed more for the win, but then it probably wouldn't have been the classic it turned out to be.
No one needs to be hurt for it to be a great fight. Mosley/De La Hoya 1 was a great fight, no doubt about it.
He did pretty well though to keep up, just not enough. Lost that couple percent that Mosley still had going into the 11th-12th. Surprised Mosley was able to sustain it that long at that pace but then again Mosley's conditioning was never in question.
I knew some schmoe would say this. For me there needs to be that element of dramatic mahem for it to truly be a great fight. Look down the list of all the Ring magazine fights of the year and the one thing they all have in common is someone getting pounded around the ring at some point. If no one is ever in danger of being KOed then it can never be a great fight IMO.
Mosley said he was suffering from some sort of back problem by about the fourth round but he adjusted and pushed through it for the win. Kudos to him for battling through the discomfort to win on the biggest stage of the sport.
You just have a perverse lust for blood. Serously though, i just look for and enjoy different things. That fight had plenty of drama, fought at a high skill level. The fact that niether went down or was 'pounded around' made it better, because it showed their toughness. But whatever. Schmuck..:good
