I always put these fights in my head and start them with the first round and try to see what happens. And I see Mosley winning for some reason. He is a very strong inside fighter and probably underrated in strength on the inside. I think he could offset some of Pryor's speed with his own on the outside and win a decision by being strong and fast on the inside. Bad style for Pryor.
Perhaps you need to watch some of his fights before you make another STUPID comment about Pryor. Anyways, i'll take Shane by SD.
Who though? Ive got most of his defenses on tape..He just wasnt beating very good fighters down there after Holiday. He looked better because..he just looked better. Even against bigger fighters he was pretty much having a similar level of dominance. I think the combo punching and confidence went out the window after the Forrest fight..I think getting outboxed and for a little bit of time getting beatdown took it out of Shane. Before that he looked excellent, especially in the DLH fight.
Well, I'm one of those who feels that Pryor has become very overrated historically, but I think pretty highly of his H2H ability at his peak. He had pretty heavy hands I would say, I think like other fighters often do, he sacrificed his power for volume and the sake of landing. He had enough power that getting hit with his arm punches were still something to be deal with. He had good hand speed. He took a good shot, although his balance would be poor. Overall, he wasn't too easy to tag in there with his herky-jerky movement, but could get careless. In regards to Mosley moving up to chase DLH, I agree, but it doesn't mean he didn't have problems making 135. He was very big at the weight. I don't think he'd suffer too much at 140, I was just throwing it out there as a possibility. I agree that Pryor would be more likely to be stunned/dropped than Mosley. The only time I've seen Mosley stunned or dropped or hurt were by bigger guys. I've seen Pryor stunned or dropped several times. http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1126084/1/index.htm Managerial problems also messed up a big fight (and payday) against Roberto Duran.
Mosley was still doing good work to the body at 147. It was a good weapon against DLH in the latter rounds. I remember Foreman commenting about DLH being hurt to the body (and he was actually making sense this time). I would have to watch the fights again as I haven't seen them in some time, but I do seem to recall him doing some good bodywork against Rivera and Diaz. The body work finished Taylor. Later in his career, it was key against Margarito, Estrada, and he hurt Cotto (I think the 11th) with a digging left hook downstairs.
first couple of rounds all sugar shane, maybe even drop pryor 1 or 2 times, but the second part of the fight pryor takes over and possibly stops mosley. "The Hawk" was one of the few fighters who could of matched mosley in strength and power at that weight. The more danger pryor was in the more dangerous and determined he was
Agree. Holiday was not one of them, but I remember Brown due to you mentioning him in your other post. Wow, it has been many years to remember, but he did hurt people and drop them with those body shots. ThreadStealer is also correct. He did bring the body shot up with him and it is a big weapon for him. I still would have loved to see him at 140 and I remember being upset and telling my brothers that it was stupid to past 140. There would have been goods fights and a chance to win another belt at a different weight class. Instead of three division, he could have been four division.
Just talking, but it is strange how Mosley wins two against Oscar, loses two against Vernon, wins two against Vargas, and loses two against Winky. I have never seen that and feel that it is strange. Good post by the way.
if i recall wasn't 140 the division shane skipped and never fought in? 135 to 147 is a pretty big jump especially for a small fighter, but at 5'9'' i'd say he's not really a shorty or a tall person, so maybe his frame helped him manage so well 135-154
His frame helped the jump, he was big at LW, but also I think his reach. Mosley has a long wingspan. At least per boxrec's measurements, he's never been at a disadvantage in this area.
all good posts guys and i wouldn't disagree with any opinion one way or the other although, i'd say pryor was perhaps more unproven rather than over-rated. Just a quick aside, remember when Pryor done a forward roll when coming at someone? (name escapes me)
This one is too tough to call but I do have a suggestion. Give Mosley his Balco and Pryor his "water" bottle. Greatest fight of all time.
