Mosley is slated to fight Berto for a title unification as far as I know. I think he'll squash Berto but Berto might show more depth than we think at the same time Shane and his 38-year-old body show more miles than it has been showing. If he unifies the two oldest existing titles by beating a flashy, undefeated Berto, will it significantly change Mosley's legacy? Would it just be a nice addition to have on his resume, considering Berto is often thought to be the lesser top guy compared to Mosley, Cotto, Clottey and Mayweather at WW or will it change his place in this era? Since Mayweather is basically a strictly WBC man (5 of his 6 major titles in 5 weight classes are from the WBC), would Mosley taking Berto's title decide whether or not Floyd wants a crack at him? Poll allows for multiple choices. Mosley: 46-5 (39 knockouts) - First major world title at lightweight in 1997. 4-time, 3 weight class world champion. He's a bad man. Too bad Mosley can't proved just much of a bad ass he is cause he's scared to face this fighter. >>> This content is protected
Oh, no. I forgot Williams was ''the most feared man in boxing"...atsch I'll tell you what, when Williams is a 38-year-old middleweight and he doesn't want to take on a freakish 6'6 Super Middleweight who is about to challenge for the linear Light Heavyweight title of the world, we'll talk about Mosley not wanting Williams and call them both duckers who don't have a badass record. Deal?
Undoubtedly an ATG, but I don't think Mayweather will fight him. And the reason being, that I honestly think that Berto may beat him. No hating, I'm a Shane fan, I just don't think he really has it in him anymore. I'll be happy to explain why if anyone asks.
It comes down to Shane's age and Berto's level of maturity in the Urango fight. Shane typically is a brawler, a very good one, very fast one even at 38 and he's got great power, but typically I feel he can be out-boxed, as Cotto showed, and Mayorga even gave him some trouble before Shane laid him out on his back late. I think Shane's performance against Margarito was terrific, don't get me wrong, but I think stylistically it was a fight that Mosley was always going to win, even if I didn't pick him at first. In hindsight, I should of picked him. Because as we look at it, it was really two brawlers against each other. Yet Mosley is just as tough as Margarito, far quicker, more skilled and arguably more power. You can't go into a fight with Mosley trying to trade with no defence, either in terms of blocking or lateral movement, and that's exactly what Margarito did. Berto is a different proposition altogether. Now I don't think this guy is at all the perfect fighter yet, not even close, for one I think his jab is lazy and technically illegal as he back-hands it, and I don't think his lateral movement is perhaps as good as you may think it needs to be against Shane. But he is quick, as quick as Shane no doubt, and he's a good boxer. Nice right hand, very good uppercut and can put together combinations or stiff single punches, he looks like he hits with real authority. Shane will go for the knockout, I have no doubt. And if he wins, it'll be because he gets it. But I feel that Berto will approach this fight similar to what he did against Urango. Obviously Mosley is a different level, the similarities are that Urango is durable aswell, big, powerful and in essence a brawler who was looking for the knockout. Berto needs to step up another gear to beat Mosley, because obviously Shane is an elite fighter whereas Urango is probably B level. With that, Berto will need to deal with the jab that Shane employed excellently against Margarito, and a punch that Urango barely used. And obviously the speed of hand and foot. If he can deal with both of those, then I think he can out-box Shane. The real 'maturity' of the Urango fight was the fact that whenever Urango get inside, he consistently tied up. Now Urango is physically strong, Shane probably stronger, but I think Berto can tie him up and I think Shane will let him, as he clinched often against Margarito. I don't feel that Berto is a fantastic boxer, but I feel that he's got solid enough fundamentals, speed of hand and foot and now the maturity and discipline to out-box Shane, who's always been hittable. I just feel that the fresher, young Berto will step up a gear that I feel he didn't show against Urango, as he won that comfortably in an almost effortless performance at times. He seems focused, determined to make a name for himself and I feel he'll step up to the occasion and feel it's his time to shine. Shane on the contrast I think he knows he's on the way out, I feel he's looking for the final pay-days.
I might respond to this a bit more fully later, but your main point seems to be that Mosley can be outboxed, and Berto has the tools to do it. Given that the only evidnce for that was an elite boxer in Cotto getting a razor-thin decision on the night of his life against Mosley (who had a bit of a shocker himself, considering he looked gassed from about round 4), I'm not convinced. I don't think Berto has the same kind of counter-punching distinction that Cotto has for starters, never mind the power or all-round ring generalship. In his prime, Mosley fought and beat the very best "boxers". So unless you think that Mosley's skillset has gone decidedly rusty, I can't really see what pretense there is to suggest that out-boxing him isn't a tough proposition.
Hmm, I would actually be shocked if Berto was able to "outbox" Mosley. Seems like the most unlikely result to me. I see these two coming at each other and Mosley simply outskilling the younger Berto and stopping him. I'll be very surprised if Mosley does not stop Berto, actually.
You may be right, and you make interesting assessments. When I saw Berto against Urango, I saw a guy stuck in between styles. He has a want to be an exciting guy who will go for a knockout but he wanted to prove he could box and not get in trouble. The fact that he outboxed Urango is a quick WW outclassing a Light WW slugger with little technical skill. Mosley will be bigger, maybe as fast, I feel far more powerful and with fights against Oscar, Forrest, Vargas and Wright at two a piece. Berto's real experience comes from Urango, Forbes and Collazo. As far as step-ups go, this is gigantic if Mosley is still well preserved. It looks to me like Berto is quite hittable by a taller man than Urango and hasn't faced a guy who can punch like Mosley. He certainly may surprise us but I favor Mosley very much because I think he'll find and nail Berto and Berto won't be able to take it. If he does win though and Mosley doesn't look like he went to hell all of a sudden, then Berto has gone from good but green to elite and earned it.
Mayweather won't fight him. A win over Berto will be his last big win. Good addition but nothing too significant.
You can never be considered an ATG or HOFer if you are a known user of performance enhancers. That level of cheating eliminates you.
I can't see Mayweather fighting him. Although if he beats Berto and becomes an even bigger payday, and Mayweather sees signs of decline then i think he might go for it. I'd say he could beat Berto but it would be a very tough fight for him. He'll have to have not declined since the Margo fight (and it's a long break and he's fair old) and have Nazim in his corner.
Berto's not beating Shane believe that. Shane is like Floyd Hopkins and Toney. This is a guy that loves to fight. This is a guy that is a consumate gym rat and is ALWAYS in shape. Berto went life and death with a powder puff puncher like Collazo and the Peurto Rican sapped his will. Wait till he meets iron chinned Shane who WILL walk through his best punches believe that.
