It seems as though the votes are a landslide in Mayweather's favor. Most people pick him to win by decision (which I agree with). However, would your opinions/picks for this fight remain the same if Mosley wasn't coming off of a 16 month layoff?:think Just curious..

Not if he wasn't almost 40.

The lay-off is a big issue because of his age. Reflexes go with age, and not using them only adds to deterioration.

Yes. He loses by decision every time.

My pick would still be the same, but the layoff is definately going to hurt him. I wish he would have taken a stay busy fight with Berto or Clottey earlier

Well it depends. If a guy stays in shape and keeps training like's he's going to fight (Berto) he won't be as affected as if he semi-retired so to speak.

I don't think the layoff will hurt him that much. Keep in mind that he had almost a complete training camp leading up to the Berto cancellation. So he's had basically two training camps in the past 4-5 months. If Mosley doesn't win, it won't be attributable to ring rust.

Exactly. I think people don't give Mosley the credit he deserves. Everyone is trying to "short" Mosley losing. The man is a veteran elite fighter. He also, like you mentioned, has had two camps.

I personally think he will come to fight and it will be a good scrap.

IMO, Mosley's best chance was about 10 years ago, & even then, I'd have had him as a slight underdog. Now, it's more of a longshot. I'll post my vCash bets with my usual hedge (if the odds make sense to do so) in Stovepipe's thread.

A layoff at this stage of Mosley's career only means something if he stopped training for the majority of that time. Being inside the ring for the 50th something time as a pro isnt going to have any sort of negative effect. Mosley completed all but a week of training for the Berto fight through Dec-Jan so id say he trained hard for about 5-6 weeks then he took off a month or so and got right back into it. So if there was any rust on Shane he probablly kicked it all off in the first camp. Watching Shane train he looks pretty dang sharp although ill admitt training footage can lie to a certain degree. Really on paper Floyd has been just as inactive as Shane really hes only fought one time in the past 2 and half years. Age isnt in excuse for Shane IMO he might not be quite as explosive as say 2000 but hes made up for it with wisdom IMO. Weight is no factor because Shane has been making 147 for most of his fights since 1999 and making it comfertably. Agian I dont believe rust is a major factor. If Mosley loses to Mayweather its because Floyd Mayweather is just a better fighter.

Floyd has had a lay off as well, and hasnt fought a welter weight since DLH... but I tend to write of both lay offs both are pros and being that Mosley was prepairing for Berto he has had the time in the gym to iron out some of the kinks...

    Exactly.

This ish is annoying people writing Mosley off. The dude is a beast. He is #3 P4P, the WBA champ, and the odds on favorite to beat Berto. On top of that his ring smarts should be getting higher. Now he magically becomes an unworthy old man? Please.

These guys are hedging to not give FMJ credit for possibly beating a great fighter. They are also hoping to amplify the loss.

Face it haters, this is a great fight all around. It would have been an even greater fight when both were champs at LW and LWW. Still, Mosley is game. FMJ is FMJ. Whoever wins this will be an event to remember. :deal

I'm not writing SSM off nor am I calling him an old man. He is more than just another opponent for PBF, he is a great warrior who will give it his all and stands a better chance than most to upset PBF for the first time. I can't wait for this fight!!

    :good

I just want them to tell me. If they say Mosley is over the hill, who is "worthy"? And don't say Pac because Pac broke off negotiations. Who?
