It was pretty obvious, at least to me, by the summer of 2006 that they were gonna fight. Biggest star against the #1 p4p fighter who had developed into a respectable PPV draw.

Back in 2003, I figured there was no way it would happen that soon when Floyd said he wanted to fight Oscar, he was about to fight Sosa at 135, Oscar was fighting Campas at 154. It was actually Arum who suggested in back in January 2001 when Floyd was with Top Rank and beat Corrales at 130, and Oscar was fighting at 147. Of course Arum had split with Oscar a few months earlier, but he was the one saying Floyd could go up 3 divisions and beat Oscar.

But by 2006, I forgot exactly when, probably after the Mayorga fight, when Oscar was on ESPN and doing his little "maybe I'll fight again, maybe I won't" spiel and said "Floyd maybe can beat me, but at the same time, I can beat him" I figured it was just a matter of time. Atlas responded to that with "You're coming back and you're gonna fight Mayweather, it's obvious" or some ****. Floyd was all happy when Oscar was fighting Mayorga and beating him, knowing that he'd probably get a fight with Oscar.

It just seemed like a bunch of hype and a long build-up.
Of course, I was confident that Floyd & Manny would fight in 2010, and I was dead wrong about that

Guess I overestimated both of their willingness to make career high paydays and prove once and for all who was better. :patsch
