all he needs to do is land a left hook to the ribs and a right to the balls and mayweather will go down.
Some real good boxing analysis being presented in this thread. This is the type of stuff we need more of on ESB.:good I think Shane has to make it an ugly and dirty fight we all know he can't win a boxing match with PBF. He will have to bully PBF to the ropes don't head hunt bang away to his body and clinch almost fight like Hatton did but he can have more success because he's stronger and more durable. He must stay out of the center of the ring but when he gets there he must also at least show a jab even if it's a pawing one with feints don't come in wild and pick his shots. Like I've said before you won't beat an elite defensive counter-puncher like PBF without a jab. It must be there to keep him honest and to break up his rhythm otherwise he will just pick you apart. I really see no other way Mosley can give PBF problems other than this stratedgy.
I'm afraid Shane is going to try to pick his shots just b'cause that's his nature - he's versatile but he always goes out tryin to prove something like against Cotto going tit 4 tat and against Mayorga tryin to overpower him with his own right hand... Floyd already put on the bait that he should prove his skill so Shane ain't gonna throw everything - he's gonna try to outclass Floyd with his own timing and punching finesse... But I really think he should focus on cutting off the ring and discharging full power on May no matter where it lands.
I think people are overestimating Floyd's boxing ability and vastly underestimating the boxing ability of Mosley. Floyd is a master boxer but throughout his career he's been able to allow people to chase him and box on his terms. He's usually been the naturally more gifted and usually bigger fighter even at welterweight. The fighter's he's faced that were naturally bigger were not boxers for the most part save for De La Hoya. (And De La Hoya was certainly past his prime at that point!) I have a great deal of respect for Floyd and his discipline within the ring.... But to be honest I have no idea how he will respond to fighting a fighter with the experience, athleticism, and vigor of Shane Mosley. At some point you have to look at the people on a guy's resume who represented a physical challenge and equivalent talent levels and size. There is no one on Floyd's resume that at the time he fought them matched up as well as Mosley does even at his advanced age. You can say Corrales did but his style was not a style that matched up well with Mayweather. Let's look at the two combatants. Tit for tat speed wise Mayweather does not have that much of an advantage. This is huge. His primary weapon of attack is his ability to potshot and counter and get out of harms way. When facing a fighter with an equal or slightly lesser hand speed, a normal huge advantage for Mayweather is taken away. This fact is compounded by the fact that he doesn't have a reach advantage on the slightly taller Mosley. Neither of these boxers have a dominant jab. They each are able to jab effectively at times but it's not their "money" punch. If the two were to engage in a jabbing contest I don't give one or the other a huge advantage. Many point to the fact that Mayweather uses his jab more effectively. I tend to disagree with this. Mayweather employs his jab better in that he's fought smaller opponents here recently and was able to use his jab in that regard. Mosley, at lightweight used his jab very effectively moreso than Mayweather at lightweight. I use the reference to their lightweight days because this is really the last time we've really seen Shane in with guys his size. Realistically it would've been difficult for Shane to win a jabbing contest with some of the opponents he's faced because he's fought naturally bigger stronger men who he had to trade punches with. As far as workrate is concerned Floyd and Shane will match up well. Floyd likes to throw 35 to 40 punches around at a very measured pace. We all know he is a defensive fighter first so he will try not to initiate the action. Shane fights at a more spirited pace but would likely like to fight at a slower pace too. Shane is a boxer/puncher but as you go up in weight you have to earn the bigger man's respect. This has turned Mosley more offensive at Welter. Against a man of comparable size I'd expect these two to box and fight with Mosley getting the better of most exchanges due to his more powerful right hand and willingness to exchange. There's an old adage in boxing.. you've got to give up some a## to get some. My gut tells me Mayweather will taste the power in these exchanges and decide it'd be more prudent to move. I've never seen a fighter beat Mosley who wasn't willing to exchange. This is where I have the biggest problem with simpy thinking Floyd's too clever for Mosley. A guy like Mosley has to be tamed. Vernon certainly tamed him with his right hand, jab, and ability to absorb a few punches. Winky was able to tame Mosley with his physicality, jab, and offensive output behind a solid defense. Mayweather, IMO, doesn't have the necessary tools to tame Shane. He can try to move and box but at some point it will turn into a fight. And even at this stage of his career, I can't see Mayweather out fighting Mosley. And I don't believe he will be able to win a decision by moving the way he did against Castillo or Corrales. Mosley is to physically gifted to be fought at a distance by Mayweather. I truly believe this fight will be very difficult for Mayweather and he could get stopped mid to late or turn it into a track meet.
I think he'll probably employ a bunch of different strategies. Here's my take on it: First he'll probably try some basic boxing and use his speed and reach to land some jabs and pursue Floyd, with some follow up right hands and hooks, some that land well, and maybe jabs and other shots occasionally to the body...he's made it clear he thinks he can have at least minimal success with those physical advantages pot-shotting him and boxing his way in for some good shots. He'll try to pressure floyd early and eat some crisp clean counter straight rights and quick jabs that may or may not win mayweather those close early rounds. Afterwards he'll try using his feet to cut off the ring and close distance just enough to flurry effectively with fast, sharp combinations and get the **** out avoiding a counter (that's what Nazim's towel and swimming pool foam tubes are for haha). He'll probably get countered as he throws but his chin fronting his determination well enough to keep going foward for the few moments necessary and overall greater punching power will allow the mini exchanges to favor Shane in terms of impressing the judges and wearing down Floyd physically and mentally. These rounds will go either way, but the physicality of his offense will have these rounds lean towards Shane. If he's mentally and physically quick and sharp enough with his hands and feet to land effective combinations despite Mayweather's crafty defense, he can set himself up to win down the stretch. At this point (6-7), if Shane gasses and/or Mayweather adjusts with a more sly defensive strategy, he will probably lose the fight. The second part of the fight will have to see Shane use his size to have the fight go his way. He'll probably start clinching a bit . If he feels dominant/effective in those mid-fight exchanges mentioned earlier, then he'll start bullying mayweather to the ropes trying to land hard in between those low-paced jab sessions in the middle that occur when Floyd baits and runs, similar to what Oscar did but with more authoritative pressure, muscling around, body punching and power punches. These rounds will determine the fight. If he lands cleanly and often enough impressing the judges with activity, he will score enough to win the fight by 2 or 3 points. Depending on how successful he was in earlier rounds, he may score a late knockout against a worn Mayeweather.
He definitely likes to go toe-to-toe with opponents' advantages, but I think Nazim will discipline him mentally enough to focus on getting the win instead of showing everyone he can do it using his opponents main method.
If shane should be a volume puncher, if the fight gets on the inside, he should rough it up, clinch. hopefully floyd gets tag and gets ktfo. floyd still wins ud tho.
