Obviously boxing has become what seems like a politician's sport nowadays (at least to me), causing pro's to not fight as often as they may like.

This caused me to wonder, do any of you guys know a current pro who is active (preferably with a winning record) as some of the old school class?

If you average 3 fights a year anymore you are considered active. 2 fights is more common and one fight isnt that uncommon.

Right now boxers often dont even tackle the 50 fight mark, which is pretty disappointing. lately, adamek has been fighting 3x a year for a champ which is pretty good. james toney has over 80 pro fights. Not many people do that these days.

Glen Johnson has been busy his career, the guy is a real fighter. Obviously he has wound down at the end of his career.

i think its better that guys ight like 3 times a year....

honestly think about it...guys of the past had records of like 150+ fights.....if you were the best welterweight in the world right now there arent more than 10 worthy opponents.... let alone 150.... i mean honestly who the **** were these guys fighting

Yori Boy Campas is the first fighter to come into mind, but hes irrelevant now except maybe a gate keeper for D level fighters.

they would often fight the top guys many times. Like SRR and Fulmer or olson. back in those days when boxing was real you werent a hype job or exposed for losing one fight.

I think we can rule out people who are just debuting in boxing. These need to be somewhat established pros. Fighting your 1st couple years, can after can doesnt really count.

Yea it is pretty frustrating to consider 3-4 fights a year alot, ecspecially when its a boxer you follow.

I know toney has a large amout of fights for pro's in todays standards. Thats why im hoping someone will point out a younger pro that has potential to fight like he's hungry like an old school pro, not for alphabet soup (which yes I know means more money) but for being in the ring, and go somewhere with going that route.

But as we all know, people coming to boxing are tending to be more educated now (whether its them or the promoters) and would rather fight twice a year. I dont think fighters that fight 8-12 times a year if not more are less intelligent, just more dedicated to the sport we love.

Abraham does not count. Winos and bag-ladies off skid row are not credible opponents.

You also have to mention pacman, he usually gets in 2-3 fights a year and has over 50 pro fights.

Pacman is pretty active for a cash cow A+ fighter. But when it comes to people like abraham or whoever, that are pretty active (3-4 fights a year), honestly I dont care who they fight. Im just looking for in ring activity period.

Our old school pro's who had 100+ fights fought their share of club fighters/ C- gatekeepers, but did it just to stay active not to cherry pick.

I agree with you 100%. I would rather watch a guy who is a B or C level fighter like Gatti or emmanual augustus fight 5 times a year on FnF then watch one "superfight" every year to 1.5 years.
