Everybody has their own definition of "athletic" I guess. For me athletic means you can propel your body about with explosive ease, change directions, and execute tremendous technical form - not move your arms really well, or bend at the waist and roll really well. Judah, Pacquiao, Jones, and Kessler are all examples of excellent athletes IMO. Calzaghe, Toney, Pep, and Whitaker are in a category of skilled boxers, but not nescessarily athletes, though Pernell is also a pretty good athlete obviously.
Ahh... He's black, of course he played basketball... (Only Semi-Pro though, not Pro) No seriously though, that's why i wanted to know the criteria. Because if we're talking "in the ring" athletics, I think Hamed takes it.
Hamed was athletic. He didn't bother with fundamentals but he was incredibly quick and coordinated and made people miss like no one since Willie Pep, who probably also should be on that list.
:smoke Locche is arguably the best defensive fighter ever. NO one.. Not even pep could make people miss like Locche. The guy stood right in front of you, hands down, talking to people at ringside and slipping and blocking every punch. Then of course have a cigarette between rounds lol.
He was untouchable, but I would stop short of calling Nicolino Locche athletic. That would have been too much work for him.
