I think when one is publicly having to call out the best big men, in order to get fights, because people their own size won't fight them, it speaks volumes.

He'd been a leading contender for over a decade when he fought Firpo.

Still lost his shot by being a grappler. He feasted on old men and finished fighters who hardly stood a chance waiting for a title shot he got his chance against a fat out of shape Firpo and decided to wrestle.

What aren't you getting? He was avoided for more or less ten years before Firpo... he fought all the best in the division bar the champions, and when you say he waited for a title shot, why is that a bad thing? What was he supposed to do?

He was supposed to impress against Firpo he wrestled his chances of a title shot away.

From 1919-1925 or so he fought a bunch of scared no hopers or old men he wasn't worth Dempsey's time he wasn't an investment either. Greb had a better claim for a title shot.

    I fail to see how.

It was a title eliminator, and it should have bee enough to get the win.

    I cannot agree with you.

If a contender agrees to an eliminator, against another dangerous contender, then the arrangement should be honored if he wins.

Wills won three eliminators, and still he was not granted a title shot.

    Charley Burley.

Fritzie Zivic bought part of his contract out when he became champ so he could keep Burley off hiM.
Billy Conn ducked when Burley tried to make the hometown match (tbf, Conn was off in search of the HW title, but it did happen)
Was repeatedly told by Armstrong's people that the champ was going to drop the WW belt before instead fighting another defence
Was turned down after his people found the cash to fund a then career's best payday for Sugar Ray Robinson.

Even guys like LaMotta, who would duke it out with The Row (god bless him) crossed the street when he saw Charley coming.

I don't know who the most ducked is, but I know who was ducked by the best fighters.

I am sticking to my guns on this one Janitor I know this is your expertise but this is one I am confident on fair or not that's boxing. The fight wasn't sellable after the Firpo fight he was made to order was overweight and had fired his trainer that's all she wrote.
Which three eliminators are these? you'll have to learn me a bit.

Greb won one too  crazy times. It just saddens me how everyone in the boozer knows about Dempsey but none of them know about Greb, or even Wills. They should be known, even if it is just as Dempsey victims.

Wills Fulton was a title eliminator.

Wills Norfolk was a title eliminator.

Wills Firpo was a title eliminator.

I don't think that I have missed anything.

Really he should have got the first available title shot after the Fulton fight.

Memory serves me right only the Mcvea and Firpo fights mattered and he blew both.

Could you get me a source on Norfolk and Fulton.
