Just watched Bernard Hopkins vs. Enrique Ornelas for the first time. I'm a huge fan of Hopkins and thought I knew him inside and out ,but that fight is as close to Ali/Clevland Williams in terms the poetic beauty some boxers can display while moving around the ring. I think a young Mayweather (vs Corrales) is at the same level, but he has become rather flat footed in recent years ( he no longer needs to stay out of arms way, his confidence is at a level where he counters his opponent while toe to toe......his fight against Mosley is his best display of this). Either way I cant think of anyone slicker than Bernard from the past or present, including Pernell.
I recall several times in my own life where I have coughed, believed I'd sharted, awaited a sensation of protruding matter or wetness, sensed nothing, then continued on with my day, unfazed by the initially traumatic concern. This thread's occurrence is similar in nature to that phenomenon.
as ironic as it may seem, i think my boy hopkins's most impressive displays of footwork came in his controversial losses to taylor in their first match and the calzaghe match. in both matches, he completely neutralized the younger and faster fighters offense despite seldom opening up offensively himself. and let's not turn this to a he won or lost thread. the fact his, his footwork neutralized his opponent's offense.
Most beautiful display of footwork? What a lot of nonsense. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XokDWnuqdP0[/ame]
Just wait until you witness a pre-weight drained Ayub Kalule schooling fools. You'll be a broken man and never able to watch Bernard in the same light again.
